Maybe we are looking at this wrong. Does the engine have to be a diesel engine? Jet fuel is pretty damn close to diesel, could we use a jet turbine engine in a ground transportation vehicle? I only use a jet turbine as an example because I really don't know offhand what other kinds of engines there are.
I wonder if a Jet engine would make a decent hybred power system. You don't have to use a jet engine for propulsion. While in the service I saw many jet engine portable power generators. If I remember correctly jet engines that drive "crank shafts" or transmissions are really not that good for stop and go traffic. But what if algae oil made sense for a jet engine but not for jet engines that powered planes?
Thinking along the lines of jet engine and hybred/electric it might make sense for big old trucks that are one the highways most of the time anyway.
Maybe we need to bring back the carberator? Do diesell engines have caberators? Even the power trane itself. Fly wheel improvements?
I guess the point or question I'm asking is who says we have to power a Ford F350 or the like. If there was an engine out there that got you better milage would you be intereseted?
I have seen info on how algae are really good at making methane gas. Very little refining. I don't think there is a mass produced engine specifically designed for methane. Maybe it's time has come. Anyone that has operated a natural gas or methane gas powered vehicle can tell you they have no power and take like days to go from zero to sixty.
Those little scooters, Moped, Vespa kinda things. They seem to have gotten popular. They also gallon for gallon put out more harmful emmisions than an SUV. They have no power and the only time they ever see 60 MPH is when they are on the truck that delivers them to the dealer. I'll bet you could run those things on methane and the operator would never know the difference.
Have I had enough to drink tonight? Well no but I probably should stop posting at any rate.
