Gizmag report upon EDF and Solaris "launching" floating Solar Panels designed for closed water use - typically reservoir-based energy collection:
Image: Solaris Synergy
The ground-breaking development isn't specifically their efficient solarcells, but their ability to pass through oxegen to the water underneath, Therefore for countries where water loss from the sun is an issue, these can both slow-down water evaporation and help to prevent water from stagnating.
I think that's a pretty clever use of water surface which would normally be forgotten.
This was the winner of a recent Israeli Cleantech Open Competition, for their Floating Concentrating Photovoltaic System.
