  • Yes, it's that time again! Visit www.sustainablelivingfair.org for more info.

The 8th Annual Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Fair is commencing on September 15 and 16, 2007, in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Join us for a weekend of enlightening solutions that sustain our lifestyles while sustaining our environment.

The Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Fair is a solution based, hands-on, family oriented event designed to educate people of all ages and backgrounds about Sustainable Living Practices, Renewable Energy, Environmental & Social Responsibility, Natural Health, Green Building, Alternative Vehicles, Organic Agriculture, Local Economies and more.

    The 8th Annual Fair features:

    Keynote Speakers
Each year the Sustainable Living Fair hosts four dynamic Keynote Speakers. Our attendees have come to expect informative, well-spoken and motivating speakers and this year will be no exception.  2007 speakers are Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now!; Peggy O'Mara, publisher of Mothering Magazine; Michael Shuman, author of "The Small Mart Revolution: and economist; Joshua Tickell, author of "From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank", "Biodiesel America" and filmmaker; and John Fielder, photographer, publisher, teacher and preservationist.

    175 National Exhibitors
Every year business from all over the country come to this event to display products and services that help lead people to make more educated decisions in their everyday lives. Follow the links on our web site (www.sustainablelivingfair.org) for a list of this year's sponsors and exhibitors.

    Hands-On Workshops and Demonstrations
Included with your $5 attendance fee is access to ALL workshops presented over the course of the weekend. Our Workshop Presenters travel from across the country to bring you the most current and accurate information out there today!  Tented workshops include Sustainable Landscapes, Solar Farming, Yurts, Natural & Green Building, Alternatives to Photovoltaic Solar, Sustainable Livestock Production, Electric Bikes, Developing Green Professionals Careers in the New Economy, and many more.  We also feature extended workshops where we will build a 10' diameter wind turbine from scratch with Dan Bartmann and other folks from otherpower.com; construct a strawbale structure with Curtis Scheib of EcoEnergy Builders; an under-the-hood workshop on converting a stock diesel engine to run on straight vegetable oil; and a Cordwood masonry workshop with Rob Roy, Director of Earthwood Building School in West Chazy, NY since 1981.

    Planet Youth
Planet Youth is a designated area at the fair featuring educational programs for kids, youth, families and educators! The all new Natural Parenting Nook is designed to help new parents learn about alternatives for natural family living.  Planet Youth is a wonderful world full of workshops, presentations, music, entertainment, crafts, activities and much more.

    Zen Zone
Reconnect to that Divine Presence within by tapping into the energy of conscious sustainability that only the Sustainable Living Fair can offer. Lose yourself in silent retrospection at the Meditation Tent. Empower yourself to heal from within by escaping to one of our several health, fitness and spirituality workshops.

    Friendly Food Market
The RMSLA proudly presents the Friendly Food Market in an effort to provide the best organic food available and to meet our Zero Waste Goal, which is no small task.

    Beer Garden
Stop by the RMSLA Beer Garden and cool off with one of these fine brews in your own reusable RMSLA Pint Glass.  New Belgium Brewing, Odells Brewing and Redstone Meadery are all local companies and have generously donated their products to support the cause.  Also, the fair is conveniently located directly across the street from New Belgium Brewery.  Odell's is only a couple of blocks away.  Both breweries are living examples of sustainability and each has incredible philanthropy programs and wonderful tasting rooms to enjoy.

    Entertainment
Throughout the course of the weekend our main stage features four dynamic keynote speakers and a collection of diverse local music and entertainment.

The Fair is organized by the Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Association ... committed to applying our vision and expertise toward a sustainable future for all. We are a non-profit organization with the distinguishing quality to move people toward powerful and profound choices in an effort to stave off complacency about issues affecting our world.

  • Seems like an excellent event. Wish it were in the northeast. Wink
  • I would love to work on creating an event like that at this end of the country. Lots of companies would jump at the chance to help sponsor and show at an event like that in the right location. MUSIC! Easy to get  musicians who will play for the environment. How much land have you got? I've only got five acres. Pipe dream?

  • Whereabouts do you live, maxwells1?

  •  Not close.Thirty miles NE of Athens Ga. Eighty miles E NE of Atlanta. Been a tough ten years since my wife convinced my to move here from Boulder after twenty years there. Would have been at the Ft. Collins gig for sure if I were still out there. Grew up in Wisconsin  so I'm really a fish out of water now. Been to four marches in DC during this GOP party and don't mind travel if it takes me to something real. I like to push bio when ever possible. Speeches, opinion pages, column for my small local. Been to a few organized events. SE Bioenergy Conference and Girl Marks touring seminar. Just want to make a positive difference. Peace

  • These kind of fairs are popping up all over the country now.  It's really exciting!  We had a group of seven or eight people from Flagstaff come to our event last year and each volunteered for a different aspect of our fair.  They took notes and we provided them with as much information as we could about our structure and planning.  Now they are starting an event in their area.  It's very exciting to be a part of!

When we first started our fair, a group of committee members went to the MidWest Renewable Energy Fair in Wisconsin and gathered as much information as they could too, http://www.the-mrea.org/energy_fair.php.  The people that organized that fair were very helpful.

I know the ReDirect Guide publishes lists of events like ours all over the country, http://redirectguide.com.  They also provide dates and contact information for each.  You may want to contact them and see what's in your area.

We are in the planning process of our 9th Sustainable Living Fair now and just updated our website.  Still needs work, but we'll get there.  We've got a great group of volunteers from various backgrounds and it's a very supportive environment.  Good Luck and hope you accomplish your dreams!  Linda Gonzales
