With fuel prices hovering near or passing $5 gallon these days, I thought it would be worthwhile to post an article touting the current models available in Europe. The fact that they have been paying similar or higher prices over there for many years makes it even more relevant to our current situation. The fact that some even allow for 7 passenger seating should allow an easy transition to all but those folks needing to pull large boats or construction equipment. The chart inset in this article lists the MPG's in the US testing cycle. ("If we build it they will come." - "If they bring it will we buy?") EPA standards notwithstanding!!

Great article, posted a link to my blog. Thanks for doing the research. Consumers need this kind of information so decision making is convenient. The general public is inclined to make personal changes regarding environmental life choices when they are obvious no brainers and easily accommodated.
This helps to educate them about how short-sited the US diesel standards are. It also points out that recent administrations and congressional and senatorial bodies
have created barriers for US consumers to real choices regarding motor vehicles. This may be do to the relentless lobbying by US auto makers, so they don't have to compete with the global market. All in the name of our "Free Enterprise" market.
Why oh why is Ford going down in US, riding its explorers and f150 trucks into bankruptcy, when it has ford focus sta wagon getting 55 mpg? I don't get it.
USA will spend nearly ONE TRILLION DOLLARS in foreign trade next year importing fuel....this is killing the dollar, since it goes straight onto the unrepayable trade deficit total. The world is flooded with dollars, soon, as the dollar falls further, and perhaps delinks from oil as the trading currency, we will have to trade many many dollars, for euros or gold to obtain a barrel of oil, how many? 2, 3, 10 trillion a year? hyperinflation nation out of gas would suck.
We must make oil, then we must use it very efficiently, or our future will be written by James Kunstler
