Hello All,
I recently went to a Jeep forum and read the article about the 2010 Grand Cherokee being outfitted with the Mercedes Bluetec engine which finally makes this vehicle 50 state compliant. http://www.wkjeeps.com/bluetec.htm
But with Chrysler being under the guillotine do you think this will still happen?? The 2010 model year is about to come out in April isn't it.
natescape: you said in my (million) post you would buy an Audi Q7. Would you put B100 in that vehicle without any concerns to engine performance and or damage?
Thomas
I'd have to research it, but I think it's safe. It'd definitely have to be ASTM-certified bio put out by a reputable company for me to put it in the engine of a $50k car (assuming I ever actually owned a $50k car).
That being said, a diesel Cherokee would be awesome.
Are you not brewing bio yourself?
BTW: Audi is introducing the new 2010 Q5 for this spring. This might be a great vehicle at a lower price tag (if they offer it in a diesel as well).
Still no contender for me since I cannot tow any of them four-down.
Nate,
What do you think?
T
I've never brewed any bio... I'm more of a commercial bio kinda guy (although I greatly respect those who do make their own). In addition, at the moment I'm without a diesel vehicle at all (long story).
I would say the Bluetec Grand Cherokee may be in doubt. Back in 2007 when Frank Klegon of Chrysler first announced their intention to do this, he said it would be for the 2009 model year. Chrysler offered the standard Mercedes 3.0L CRD in the Grand Cherokee in 2007 and 2008, then discontinued the option in November 2008. Of course, the expectation was that the Bluetec would soon follow, but so far nothing.
With all of the engineering done on the 3.0L CRD version, you'd think it wouldn't be that much more to drop in the Bluetec, but I guess Chrysler is cutting wherever they can. At the price of the Bluetec, it probably would not be a high volume proposition.
Nonetheless, I have a 2008 Grand Cherokee diesel, and am completely sold on it. 24 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg combined, plus it's a beast when it comes to towing and driving in the snow and ice. I've told my dealer I'm not trading it until there's a Bluetec version. If Chrysler hears this from enough people, maybe they'll make it happen.
Hello Jon,
Great info. I was looking forward to a Jeep Bluetec. How does your Jeep perform with biodiesel? What blend are you using? How does the DPF work with the bio?
Too many questions??
Anything greater than B5 voids the warranty, so I haven't tried it. I read somewhere else that Chrysler is working on increasing the compatability to B50, but again, I doubt this is a high priority for them right now (unfortunately).
