I know there is only one (listed) distributor in SC for biodiesel. I feel certain that a niche market can be carved out in the Upstate for BD, but I'll be blending my own fairly soon.

If your anywhere near the midlands there is a distributor in Aiken. He has 5-15% at the pump and 100% if you want smaller quantities. United Energy on Toolbeck road is the Company. They are supposed to be building a processor. They had a news story in the Aiken paper and the State. Supposedly recieved a big grant. They have a tank farm on U.S 78 which I think is going to be the plant site. They also sell E85 which I'm currently running in my flex fuel Chrysler minivan.

Country musician Willie Nelson pulled into a Greer truck stop Tuesday to pump his own brand of biodiesel fuel into a tour bus. A few miles down Interstate 85, retired nuclear technician Garland Whitlock fired up a tractor that runs on a homebrew of diesel and recycled cafeteria grease. Nelson and Whitlock have vastly different lifestyles, but they had the same message Tuesday. The nation can reduce its dependence on foreign oil by harnessing the power of vegetable oil, they said. Consumers can buy biodiesel at more than 200 retail pumps across the nation, according to the National Biodiesel Board. One challenge to making biodiesel and other alternative fuels more widely available is funding a costly infrastructure that can carry the fuel to the consumer. But the push is on. Skyrocketing gas prices, air pollution and instability in the Middle East have spurred a shift toward alternative fuels that have become available in the Upstate. Nelson, whose hits include "On the Road Again," was at the Spinx station off I-85 to tout his blend of diesel and soybean oil. Drivers at the same station have been able to buy an ethanol-based fuel since April. "I think more and more people have started to think — and think very seriously —about the whole alternative question," Clemson University political scientist Bruce Ransom said. The Spinx at I-85 and State 14 is the first station on the Eastern Seaboard to sell B20, a blend of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum-based diesel, said Joe Jobe, CEO of the National Biodiesel Board. Nelson, 72, said that when his wife bought a biodiesel-powered car, he noticed the emissions smelled like French fries. He now drives a Mercedes powered on the fuel. "It's something we can have across this country," Nelson said. "And there's no need for us to be so dependent on foreign energy." "Willie Biodiesel" can be used in any diesel engine and will be available at 50 Spinx stations in the next three months, said Stewart Spinks, the chairman and CEO of The Spinx Company. The fuel sold for $2.19, the same as regular diesel. An environmental group at Furman University has begun using castoff dining hall grease to make the fuel to power lawnmowers and tractors. Whitlock said he makes his fuel with grease from a church's school cafeteria and $50 in equipment, including a blue barrel, a filter and a siphon he bought at Big Lots. He didn't go to Greer to meet Nelson but supports the country singer's concept. "I really like anybody that is out here trying to develop alternative energy sources to free us from foreign domination economically," Whitlock said. The Upstate's introduction to alternative fuels comes as the region struggles to keep air pollution in line with standards enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency. Failing to meet those standards could result in a loss of federal highway funds and regulations that require new businesses to install the latest in pollution-control technology. A monitor in downtown Greenville has shown the air with too many airborne tiny particles to meet EPA standards. "We cannot wait on many of the major oil companies to come to a solution to this," Spinks said. A crowd of truck drivers and Nelson fans crowded around a stage set up next to the pump as big rigs rumbled by. Nelson walked onto the stage with his hair tied in a ponytail. But he wasn't the only celebrity to come out in favor of biodiesel. Dennis Weaver, who starred in the TV series "Gunsmoke," flew in to support the fuel that he said changes way business relates to the Earth. "Folks, the simple truth is we can not grow oil," he said. I've been buying from the Spinx station ( I-85 @ SC 14 ) since two days after they opened. Stewart Spinx is an innovator in the small business world and it's nice to see a local business invest in the future of the American fuel needs. The fuel is still priced the same as dino and even is lower than the TA & Pilot about 9 miles north. They carry E85 as well as Willie's B-20. I just wish we could get B-50 and B-100. Spinx is a great local company who believes in local economy and customer service. If more of us spoke up, more of us would get alternative fuel sources. plainredtruck

I am still interested. I just haven't had the time to get things going. I need to source a water heater and then plumb everything together.

Has anyone used the b100 from Aiken in their vehicles. Our company is thinking of switching from b20 to b100 but are concerned about how it will affect engines. We keep late model equipment and don't want to mess up fuel pumps. I heard today that some people are having problems with the b20 they get stopping up the filters more than just the first time. The $.50 tax credit on b100 is very enticing.

Yesterday 12/19/2005 I finally found another Uninited Energy Distributors station in West Columbia,SC at 2470 Fish Hatchery Rd.(803 796 8741) that sells B20 & E85. I could not find this location on any station locator site. The B20 was $ 2.259 per gal on 12/19/2005. They aren't equipped to handle other grades at this time. Hours were 8:00AM to 5:00PM , I would call ahead to verify the time. Everyone there was very helpful. I am running the Bd in a Jeep Liberty Common Rail Diesel (CRD) that according to Chrysler brochure " Uses an alternative fuel available every where right now. I think the Aiken, United Energy Distributors sell the B99 in bulk. I intend to use the B99 with #2 dino at about 50/50 which should give me about B50 overall. Also I doubt using the B99 would harm any Compression Ignition Engine since Rudolph Diesel presented his invention at the 1900 Words Fair ran the engine on 100 % peanut oil.

I'd offer up, but I'm not quite to full blown batches and my processing area is shared with a VW Squareback in pieces. The place is a mess and not a good, shining example.
