    Amazing Emmissions Results With Biodiesel

MUCH MUCH MUCH LOWER EMMISSIONS...IN MY TRUCK!!!!
I just reregistered my 84 Isuzu 2.2 ltr Diesel Pickup. It has 150,000 miles on it.

I live in Davis County. Davis County does an Opacity test on the tail-pipe emmisions (checks to see how clear the smoke is).

They check it at two intervals.
One at 50 MPH and One at Wide Open Throttle.

Last year I wasn't running any Biodiesel. This year I had about B95 in it.

I just did the test today (yes, in this colder weather and even at 8AM in the morning).
I've been running blends of B100 to B20 throughout the summer in it.
I'd say I've used about 5-6 tankfuls of it (the truck doesn't get driven much) to this point.

    50 MPH Test
    2004 17 2005 1.8 Difference -15.2
    89% Reduction!!

    Wide Open Throttle
    2004 25 2005 5.6 Difference -19.4
    77% Reduction!!

Now, I'm not an environmentalist, but THAT'S JUST DAMN INCREDIBLE!!!! 89% and 77%

Emmissions improvement, just from using biodiesel.
PLUS The truck runs quieter & smoother
PLUS It starts easier PLUS It runs better on the freeway
PLUS It smells better PLUS I can make the stuff!!!

Soo....to anyone out there waiting to take the plunge, I'm tellin' ya.
I've just had bonified proof that the stuff does what we all say's it does!

I've even got the official government paperwork to prove it
(we have to take our diesels to the stupid County Emmission Center in Davis County--they're not known for going easy on diesels).
I swear the guy was tryin' to make it fail.

He really revved the sucker & I could tell was trying to push it to it's max...BUT HE FAILED!!! he he he... So.
The moral? Go out & buy or make some Biodiesel & stick it in yer diesel!!!
    YOU WON'T BE DISSAPPOINTED!!!

There's only two downsides I see on Biodiesel in Utah right now (ones that should be taken care of soon):
1- It's kind of expensive if ya buy it commercially
2- It takes some time & resources if ya make it yerself That's it.

My guess is the price is going to come down (w/ the new tax incentive that was just passed)
and this year we plan on teaching several seminar's on how to make processors and how to make quality Biodiesel.

I'm still just amazed at the results though. The stuff is just stinkin' amazing!!!

Re: Amazing Emmissions Results With Biodiesel

Dear Graydon: Thx for the happy post!! My 7.3 Ford runs happily on various mixes but runs best on 75% and higher, starts easy ( when pluggged in) in spite of bad glow plugs. I haven't tested it for emissions running biodiesel but it passed easily last summer running petrodiesel. Congrats to you, Andre, Jack, and Chip for the great job you all did on the proposed Coop structure! I now have Jack's 275 gal. tank in my pickup so can haul all the BD I can collect for you and others. Let me know if I can help you collect over the holidays as I will have more time after Dec. 8 when classes end at the U. Thx, Al

Last year I bought a 1987 Mercedes 300D with 223,289 miles on it. After paying for the car I drove it to the emissions station and had it tested on the petrol that was in the tank. It acutally did very well. At 30% horse power the old lady measured 2.3% opacity. At Wide Open Throttle she measured 4.0% opacity. Not too bad considering the Max is 30.0% opacity. So, now it's a year later and I need to do it again. She now has 238,268 miles (most of those miles was on B100, a fair amount on B50, and a few on lower blends). The car was full of B100 before going to have it tested. I went to the same station it was tested at last year. At 30% horse power it measured 0.4% opacity. At Wide Open Throttle it measured 1.0% opacity. That's is a huge difference!! It even surprised me...and I was expecting a big difference. -Jack http://riodiesel.com/

Thanks Graydon! I too have had great success running B100 for emission testing. My first Opacity test this year was at 40% (the limit here is 30%). After a tank of B100 (and new filters, of course!), my 1985 Mercedes tested at 2.9% AMAZING !

Congrats on sharing the feeling! Now you know how to respond when people say or write that "diesels pollute...": It's the dirty fuel that pollutes. I've done the finger-swap "emissions test" on the lower part of the bumper on our white NB. When it runs on B100 it stays clean forever right next to the bumper. If you run jsut petro-diesel, that bottom lip of the bumper next to the exhaust starts getting black with the first tank.

Well, it was that time of year again....

Time to go visit the Davis County Emission Folks w/ my trusty, rusty old Isuzu Pickup. The truck still did great!

Wide Open Throttle Test 11% Opaque
    50 MPH Test
    1%

The reason it was higher this year was due to the blend I was running.
I had B20 in it this year whereas last year it had B70. Still, impressive!
