Biodiesel in Grand Rapids and Vriesland Michigan

The Crystal Flash on Alpine Ave. offers B2 and B20 at its retail pumps and B100 by appt. only.  You can contact their corporate office (located at same location) to set up a time to get the B100 pumped into your vehicle.  I've run both their B20 and B100 in my '99 F-350 pickup.

Another good place which sells the B20 is through the Farmers Co-Op Elevator company out of Hudsonville, MI.  I stumbled across them when searching for biodiesel retailers.  While they don't have public biodiesel pumps like a gas station would, they do offer biodiesel for people who've applied for and been approved for credit for a commercial fuel card.  This card will let you purchase B20 at their Vriesland location through a commercial fueling station.  Normally just big rigs and farm machinery will fuel up at this location, but I've also seen a VW Jetta fuel up there, so Word must be getting around.  My last six tankfuls (usually around 30 gallons) have been from their B20 pump, and my truck runs fine.

Re: Biodiesel in Grand Rapids and Vriesland Michigan

Is there any interest in a West Michigan Biodiesel cooperative? I am an microbiology student at Grand Valley State University, and have done an internship with our alternative energy research lab in muskegon (mostly working with methane digesters) The city of muskegon has planned to do a biodiesel partnership with a professor at gvsu to power their school busses on b20 biodiesel. I was looking for potential biodiesel afficionados to work with me and some students from GVSU's engineering dept. on a similar project for Grand Rapids. I have connections with the prarie fire coop (8+ years in business) of madison WI who would be willing to come over and get us set up. Logistically, I think we can make it work b/c I have secured GVSU and GRCC's WVO supply, amounting between 150-250 gallons per week. The city of Grand rapids would provide space, as well as a market (street sweepers and service vehicles) to get us started. Participants would get to make biodiesel to put in their cars for free, as long as we were able to arrange things so that there would be enough left over to give biodiesel to the city of GR for free as well. If anyone works in a BD co-op please feel free to comment to give me any suggestions. I know what I am doing when it comes to the chemistry of biodiesel, but I am not a business/engineering major and admit that I don't know very much about that side of the biodiesel world.
