Great news. It's ridiculous you can't get biodiesel near Washington, DC, though that doesn't really surprise me (I know the area well, as I'm from Northern Virginia). I hope someone out there gets a pump going in DC/NOVA soon.

I run a commercial food operation and, while we don't do tons of frying, we do create our share of used vegetable oil. I'd like to put it into local use. Contact me by email, davidking20007 at yahoo.com if you are interested.

Lindsay, we have a quickly growing list of biodiesel users here in the Arlington area and I am now the proud owner of a Jetta TDI so I'm ready to put in my hours in a coop in order to fill it up. Are you ready for me to help you? Look at this page (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=20012884776) and check out all the people looking for a biodiesel Co-op in the DC AREA!!! Shall we organize with Lindsay people? If you're ready, email me at israel at freealert.org!

snorth,
What's the current price for B99 today? Where in Manassas are you located? I'm in Winchester.
Thanks,
John

Hi! Current price for B99 is $4.20/gallon due to the recent surge in the fuel cost as well as the anti-gel additives I've mixed in. That's about .2% Power Service Arctic Express Biodiesel Anti-Gel and .8% Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement (white bottle). So really that leaves me with B98 I guess.

I am looking for a coop to make bio. I have the time, I have the space, and I have the drive. I tried to get one started down here in Quantico- I have a large area to set up- and actually a trailer we could build a mobile unit on. I have access to plenty of free wvo. Any ideas or seriosly interested parties please respond- Please e-mail me at boattec1@verizon.net. A co-worker and myself will be starting on our own- and hopefully get things going. I am planning to start running some of our older Gov't vehicles on bio as a base line for availability at the same time.

hi Lindsay, good job on the biodiesel and I see you joined this forum way back in 2004 and am curious how you are doing right now? Did your group get bigger and are you guys gaining a lot of success with your equipment?
I am going to be organising biodiesel workshops through VA... MD and DE in the coming months as a way of introducing a very efficient and safe system of making biodiesel. Anyone wanting to pre-register or line up to be notified when the class will be in their area or the proximity therof just e-mail me incaalpacatrail@hotmail.com.
Look forward to hearing from you all and the best of luck with your endevours.
Warmest regards.

Snorth;
Is that $4.20 per gallon for genuine B9(x) road legal, tested, all taxes paid, biodiesel fuel?
Or is that $4.20 for something else.

The first one.
Seriously, though, here's run-down. I get a 99% Biodiesel / 1% ULSD mixture delivered by Holtzman Oil Corp. They're a major distributor to gas stations throughout the I-81 and I-66 area (maybe more, that's what I know for sure). I believe their supplier is the refinery down by Richmond. Last I checked, this was Soy biodiesel, ASTM certified, and Holtzman charges me the road taxes. Completely road legal.
The current price is so high because I treated this biodiesel with a 1% mixture of winterizing additives (Arctic Express and PS Diesel Fuel Supplement). I also treat with a biocide made by Power Service. I replace the tank's Goldenrod Water-Block fuel filter every fill-up. And we're still paying off the initial equipment costs.
I haven't checked on Holtzman's prices in a while, so I'm not sure how much they've changed. My next fill-up won't have the winterizing agents, so I'm hoping the price will be able to come down a lot.

Hey Snorth;
Thanks very much for the reply. I thought that might be the case. So, you are over in Manassas, so I guess I need to hook up with you to arrange a pump time? I know that Holtzman has been selling the commercial soy biodiesel at B99 for a few years now, but I've never gotten a straight answer from them on how to get it.
So, you are stocking a lot of this stuff?

Crap. I sent an e-mail through this site (not PM). I wonder if either the e-mail function doesn't work or your address is out-dated. I'll send again through normal channels.

We've started the Northern Virginia Biodiesel COOP www.novabiodiesel.org and we're having our second meeting (first actual brewing session meeting) today at 2pm.
Some of us are actually now burning vegetable oil directly (see http://vegetableoils.blogspot.com).

Are you willing to accept another customer/member? I'd like to get my F250 off the dino-juice.
Thanks,
