Anyone here a "car buff"?  I'm asking because I'd like to know if a diesel engine was made in the late 1940's/early 1950's by Chrysler Corp.?

Regardless of what peeps might think, I love old American cars.  I go to car shows every summer.  I also happen to have a 1946 Plymouth sitting in my driveway (not being used - needs LOTS of work).  However, with the concerns over vehicle emissions and the skyrocketing prices of gasoline, the chances of me being able to EVER get this buggy rolling again is getting slimmer by the day.

Then I had an epiphany... find a vintage diesel engine that'll bolt into the '46 and convert it to run biodiesel!  Hence, I could still enjoy the old car, it'll still at least LOOK original, but be much more environmentally-friendly than it was originally designed.  It needs a new gas tank and lines anyway, so I don't have to worry about cross-contamination - I have to replace all that stuff anyway.

Anyone know if a vintage MOPAR diesel engine exists? Big Smile

I'm a semi-car buff and don't recall Chysler building a diesel of their own for any mass produced vehicle. Even during WWII and their 25,000+Sherman tank years they would use the multi bank gasoline engine.

I suspect one could drop a Cummin 4BT into just about anything with a hood.
