When residents of the the City of Oak Ridge North near The
Woodlands flip on their lights, they are now part of a quiet
revolution.
Although some residents may not even be aware of it, they are using
peak-demand power created by three engines that have become the first
biodiesel generators to plug into the electric grid in the United
States.
Houston-based CenterPoint Energy Inc., which is providing the
interconnection for the project, has worked with other environmentally
friendly power sources in the past, but this is the first time the
energy company has an agreement with a generator fueled by biodiesel.
"We are especially pleased to be a part of this historic project,"
says Bob Roy, CenterPoint Energy's Greenspoint/Humble service area
manager for electric operations.
