Hi, the Canoe Paddle Processor is here ! :)

This setup is for people that have learned  to make 1 liter batches and want to do larger batches.  I have done 100 liter batches in it.

I also suggest:  get this book and learn how to make soap with the byproduct from the small batches before going big !

Hi,  This is my first post on this forum.  I was active on the other forum using the name steved.  This forum would not let me use that name.  Someone else has it.

We are going to be posting here with info about the Canoe Paddle Processor and other work we do at the Greengirl Labs in Florida.  We don't stop or slow down at all in the winter.

All new info on the work at Greengirl Labs will be posted on this forum.

    All questions welcome !

    Thanks, Steve

    Re: Hi

Regarding your novel mixing methods, external verification of its effectiveness would be helpful (real testing, not anecdotal "it works").

    Re: Hi

    Hi sniper,

You can check it out for yourself. It would cost you about $30 dollars or less to find out !  :)

If it did not work I am sure someone would have posted by now being as it is so easy to try !  :)

It is the Dr. Pepper method upsized !  :)  I have had success upsizing to 100 liters.  You may be able to go larger, I have not tried.  The Dr. Pepper method is awesome !   Give it a try ! :)  It is not novel. The Dr. Pepper method and Canoe Paddle mixing have been around for years.

People in biodiesel that are not in it for the money are often misunderstood by the people that are into it for the money and vice versa  !  :)

Greengirl Labs is not for profit and we have never asked for money.  It is supported by the members and we give all our info and research away free. It is our blessing and our pleasure to be able to do this !  :)

     Thanks, Steve

    Hi,

Greengirl does not like to post.  I can tell you her motto !     It is  "OK,  try it,  just don't make a mess !"  :)   She is way cool !  We try alot of different things,  some work some don't.  We have not made a mess yet !  :)

    Thanks, Steve

    Re: Hi

Hi,  To be clear, I did not invent canoe paddle processing.  Dhill is where I first heard of it.  I may be the first person to try it then do a 3/27 test and post about it.  That is how I found out it worked so good.  Then I thought how can I seal it so I don't get methanol fumed.   That took about 10 mins or less to figure out.  Like the 3/27 test it was there just waiting for someone to give it a try !     Why this info was not checked out by the biodieselers before me is something I do not understand.  For batches of 100 liters it works fine.

You can build a Canoe Paddle Processor for less than $300 including a band heater.  You can use it to :

    1. Dewater and clean the oil with the glycerin pretreat method.

    2. Preheat the oil

    3. process the biodiesel with a fraction of the mixing time needed by other processors

    4. wash the biodiesel

    5. dry the biodiesel

All in one 55 gallon drum using no electric if the sun is out.  If not use the band heater.

    Thanks, Steve

    Re: Hi

If I had not spent all that money on pump mixing and other stuff that I did not need then I would be closer to buying my BioPro. :)

When I get the BioPro I will still use the Canoe Paddle Processor to pretreat and clean the WVO !  It will still be used !  :)

seems they will let anyone in here!!!!!!!!!!!

try not to destroy threads on this forum like you did on infopop, just because someone does not agree with you does not mean you should delete hundreds of your previous posts wrecking the structure of discussions!!!

This is how we heat the oil using the sun.  Those are plastic mirrors. They really help heat up the oil !

Hi Fuzznag,  We have been mixing the glycerin from the last batch with the oil to lower FFA in the oil then draining the glycerin before processing the biodiesel.  I am using less lye and making less soap.  My last batch used less lye than any batch that I had ever made.  It was high conversion.  I have not been water washing the biodiesel but letting it sit for a few weeks and draining the KOH soap that comes out a little every few days.

High conversion, low soap biodiesel is the stuff !  Even if you don't water wash it the soap drops out just fine ! :)

I was told that if I mix some biodiesel with the oil after it is hot before I add the methanol and lye that I can use even less lye.  What do you think ?  I am going to check it out.

    Thanks, Steve

After putting on the lid we add the methanol and lye

     steved,

It is presumptuous of you to assume that Shaun is talking a tax deduction for the infopop forum.

    He is not.

I second the observation about you trashing the infopop forum by deleting 90% of you posts - youn posted about 2500 times and only 250 remain. It was very disruptive to the forum.

For the record, Shaun deleted fewer that 20 of your posts.

You'll find that the "biodiesel community" worldlwide is a very small group of people. I suggest that you consder that before bombing another biodiesel site with your posts.

As far as the canoe paddle mixer goes, I agree with you 100%. Turbulent mixing results in very high conversion in a very short amount of time. I witnessed the same effect in the 250 ml "minibatches" we routinely made on newly collected oil versus the reactor size (1400 gallon) batches we made with the same recipe and a high shear 2 inch centrifugal pump. The minibatch shaken up for 15 to 20 seconds always had higher conversion (measured on our GC) that the same recipe - same oil had in the reactor that we mixed for 90 minutes.

    Welcome to the forum.

You can also use a band heater to warm the oil if the sun is not out !  :)

I bought mine on eBay new for $32.

    Hi Bob,

I traced Canoe Paddle Processing back to biodieselers in N.C.   Since that is where you are, do you know who did it first and how this info got lost ?  It works great.

You appear to understand the mixing.  Did you know about it before I posted the info ?

    Thanks, Steve

     Welcome Stephend,

I went over to infopop and tried to follow your postings. I must admit I am intrigued. I am having a little trouble following your entire process. Can you post the entire process from picking up the waste oil to having finished product. Perhaps I have missed it somewhere. I will be happy to look it up if you can point me in the right direction.

    Hi Spideytruck,

I am working on it.  It is under construction here and on biodieselpictures.com.

     Thanks for the welcome !

     steved,

I have known shaun personally for 8 years. I have watched your behavior online for about one. Not hard to figure where my loyalties lie.

We are both pleased that ypu have moved on from infopop. I would be happy if all of your posts had been deleted. The reason most of us cared that you deleted your posts was two-fold. It was a waste of bandwidth and it left threads unintelligible as other's cogent anwers to your drabble were compressed and lost their context.

As far as turbulent mixing goes, I first witnessed it as operations manager of a commercial biodiesel facililty, not when you posted about a few months ago, but about six years ago.

If you were to "charge Shaun" for posting your work, believe me, it would not be worth a plugged nickel. Just because you observed something and made a big whoop-de-do about it with dozens of posts on a discussion forum, does not change the fact that the reaction kinetics involved in transesterification have been pretty well understood (and published in peer reviewed papers) for about twenty to forty years. It would be like me getting all excited beacuse I witnessed an orange falling to the ground and invited others to witness the "marvel" of gravity. It's cool - it "works" - it's *not* new. Paddle mixing has been used commercially in biodiesel production for at least 12 years that I personally am aware of - probably much longer.

As far as me not contributing as much to the infopo forum as you have. Please understand that volume is not quality.

As far as "grow up" is concerned......whatever!
