Austin Area Co-op - Request for Info / Interest

Does anyone know of an Austin area biodiesel co-op?  If there isn't one, is anyone interested in forming such?

My interest is in terms of promoting eco-friendly fuels, finding/creating a source of low-cost fuel for my own and others' benefit, and in learning all about the biodiesel production process.

    Cheers,

    Bill

I am considering a small jatropha plantation in your area over the next year. A co-worker is from Austin and owns some land. I'm an engineer and have a machine shop for equipment. -This may seem like a long time, but I'm in it for the long haul. I will keep my eyes open and would not mind joining a co-op even if it's from this remote location. -I welcome your thoughts!

    Thanks

Interesting.  I'd like to meet your co-worker and find out more about your plans.  I assume this is for commercial biodiesel production purposes?

    Thanks.

Hi Bill - have you heard of DieselGreen Fuels? We started out as the Austin Biodiesel Cooperative in 2005, but could not get enough people together to do the physical work needed to collect oil and make biodiesel. A lot has changed since then, and we are now Austin's only source for B100 and WVO.

Although I like the idea of a coop, I think it's important to support businesses like us. We have invested much of our time and money into supporting alternative fuels in Austin, and hope that you'll be a part of the community we are helping to build - come out on any Tuesday night from 7-10pm and check out our place, meet other people running biodiesel or vegetable oil, and buy some fuel.

    Jason,

Thanks, and yes, I currently buy DieselGreen's B100 for my TDI.   I'll try to make it out there for the meet this evening.

I'm also learning about how to make biodiesel, and supporting alternative energy efforts in other ways.  Have you guys looked into growing algae for oil?  It seems that this part of the country would provide an excellent environment for it.

I am trying to find a Bio-Diesel; testbed for testing various fuel sources.  Anyone know of such a testbed in the Austin area?
