I am in South Texas, I obtained mine from Hap Hallibaugh in Berkely, California, but they are the toxic type I believe. They are growing very well for me so far.  you can find him at:

    510-558-8650
    1509 4th St
    Berkeley, CA 94710-1706

and inquire whether he has the non-toxic variety. Hap was nice enough to send me two when I ordered and paid for only one. $60 with shipping included.

    clint here again,

I've checked with Hap again, just in case there is a non toxic type. as far as he knows, the entire genus is toxic. anyone claiming to have non toxic type. well. i'd ask them to eat 3 seeds before i bought from them. I'll still with the regular toxic type.

    CTT is toxic,

    gas is toxic

    oil is toxic.

no need to change anything yet. thought it'd be nice.

update on Hap in Berkely at Cactus Jungle,

he has 30 plants left for sale. I've ordered 10. so if you want some, you'd better call quick. I was under the impression he had a green house full 2 months ago when i ordered my first sapling.

he's keeping the seeds to start a fresh batch of saplings and im sure he wouldnt part with them for gold.

i may have saplings in a few months.

i just picked up 15 packs of seeds

    $4.00 per pack

about 11 seeds in each pack

    echonet.org

    Re: Jatropha seeds or seedlings

seed sources I've found so far.

echonet.org (12 seeds per pack, $4,00 per pack, 5 pack maximum)

    Cactus Jungle ($42.00 per seedling)

ebay (various sources, 1000 seeds for $62.00)

I've read about some seminars but if you have the time, you can look up all you need to know online. first,

how much land do you have to dedicate to this project?

what is your main purpose of growing JC? (for yourself or do you wish to go commercial?)

and most important, where are you? if you are north of lets say Houston for now. you'll grow some nice trees, and come Jan. or Feb. they will die.

JC is not cold tolerant. once it reached 40F, your crop is dead (currently, though there are people working on making it more resistant to cold).

email me with any more questions you have.

you can click on my name and you'll see 95% of my posts are about my experiences growing Jatropha Curcas.

    Lets say each seed is 1gram. $4/11grams = $.35/gram x 28 x 16 x 7lbs/gal = ~$1100/gal x 20% oil/seed = $5500/gal if your interested in trying to make fuel from your pack of seeds. Indifferent

Don't want to start any fudes here , But there is a non toxic Jatropha  Plant. It grows Only in Mexico. Actualy;;  jatropha originated in Mexico. Traveled by way of Aztec indian traid routs to South America. It was the Spanish ( almost three hundred years ago) that took it back to Spain. From there it spread all over Europe & south to the Africas. In time, because of change in weather and soil conditions it became toxic. There are to this day ,  still non toxic verietys in Mexico and large plantations in Quintana Roo that grow it , roost it and seal it for people to eat like people eat Sunflower seeds in the USA. It is not eaten as a food. More as a snake or treat. There are Plantations in Puebla Mx., Chiapas Mx., Veracruz Mx.,

I know this Because My Wife is a Mexican, born and raised. And we buy a Kg or two every time we go to Mexico to see her parents.  They are like lays potato chips or salted peanuts (not in flavor)  ""BET YOU CAN'T EAT JUST ONE.""

    Re: Jatropha seeds or seedlings

yup, they were the 2nd american source for seeds i could find, very expensive but if you only wanted to start off very small, and try out a few trees, its better than ordering 1000 from ebay paying 62 bucks.

plus your math is off just a tiny bit. Jatropha seeds are up to 47% oil, not 20%. the most conservative estimates have them well above 30%. but i do see your point. I only mentioned them in the event someone wanted a few seeds, not everyone will start off buying thousands of seeds. some may want to try a few plants out to see if they'll survive the winter in their particular area.

I've stopped buying from echonet as they've messed up my last 2 orders and now have implemented a strict limit on how many anyone can order. I liked them at first because a portion of the proceeds were supposed to be given to charities as well.

good info, but no one in Mexico, or people that go there and bring back seeds, that I have spoken with will respond to sell some seeds to the U.S.

so they could be gold plated platinum seeds, I still cant get any. and unless they are more cold resistant, grow bigger fruits and seeds, or have a higher oil content, except for having a neighboring child or some animal eating the fruit and getting poisoned, and getting sued.

Cary at Lakebiofuels.com in California has a great variety, 80% germination so far on my experiences, at half the price of tropilab. 1000 seeds for $62.00 and free shipping.

    Tropilab sells the following

    Jatropha curcas seeds 1 package (50.000 seeds) US$ 4,203.80

while Cary again at Lake biofuels sells 50,000 seeds for $1100, cant recall whether shipping is free on that side of a package, its 110 lbs. even with shipping its MUCH cheaper.
