    methanol prices

About a month ago I read online that methanol prices were starting to drop and going to continue to drop during the summer months. Don't ask me where I read it. I found it somewhere in a google search. I do remember the date of the article was sometime in March. I called my supplier this past week and the price I was given was actually higher than in November and December of last year. It went from $4.25 to $4.40 per gallon. I was curious what everyone else is paying???

    Re: methanol prices

I've made that statement the last two years after watching the trend over prior years. This year has been different, and perhaps the commodity demands are changing, affecting prices. In April we bought for $3.34/gal. A few weeks later the price was closer to $4/gal. We bought again last week and it cost $3.24/gal. Better, for certain, but still not even close to the $2.34/gal we paid all of last year (the price was stable too).

Methanol is typicall made from natural gas. Since natural gas is used for heating in the winter, demand is higher, and subsequently, less methanol is produced. The laws of supply and demand ensure that the prices of methanol thusly increase in colder months. (HINT: stock up in Autumn if you process through the winter)

    Re: methanol prices

Thank the high fuel prices for methanol price increse. Wether it is transported by a freighter , barge or tanker truck they all burn petroleum products. Most methanol is manufactured in S. America and Canada. So there is alot of transportation cost associated with methanol prices. Joe.D

    Re: methanol prices

I am from a fairly rural area and I am limited to 2 sources. Both of which have a much higher price than what alot of people are paying on this forum. Does anyone know of any suppliers in the western New York area?

I just paid 3.40 a gallon, but If I buy it in bulk it's only 3.15/gal.
