Feedstocks manager position at Piedmont Biofuels

Looking for someone who is willing to work hard, is entrepreneurial, creative, environmentally minded and dedicated to sustainability, and who enjoys both physical work, desk work, and building local networks of clients.

Oh, you're still here?  Ok, read on then -

The feedstocks collection business is complex and requires a variety of skills, but is still in it's infancy compared to the capacity of its markets.  It is a position which involves meeting and talking with lots of people and maintaining good relationships with them, advertising and pricing both planned and on the fly, and a good understanding of business and business relationships.  As a result, the manager must be interested in sticking with the business until it is many times its current size and must also stay focused, on a daily basis, on acquiring new accounts and expanding into new markets.  In addition, physical work is a constant part of the job.  Driving truck, lifting barrels and other heavy objects, and generally getting dirty all can be responsibilities of the manager.  Enjoying a mix of physically, mentally, and socially challenging work is an absolute necessity for success.  The manager is essentially independent in his/her decision-making, but he/she has to be willing to look to others for advice and guidance to assure that every decision is the best one, so working in a team is key.  In the end, this position holds the key to the future of the project as a whole, and therefore must be done with the utmost effort and skill.

To apply, please respond to greg@biofuels.coop with the following:

    Cover letter
Previous relevant experience in business, marketing, and physical labor or driving truck.

Piedmont pays $24k a year plus health insurance and a very reduced rate on fuel. Occasionally we also have below-market-rate housing available. (incidentally I work and live at Piedmont at the moment).

Since you're from Virginia, you're probably asking about Dave Thornton- he's now the head of Design-Build division of Piedmont Biofuels Industrial.

The job posting was for the Cooperative's oil collection/feedstock manager position, which isn't related to Industrial directly.  There are periodically other jobs available at both facilities so please send a resume if interested.

Also, we have an internship program starting in September that's a good first step towards getting work with Piedmont, see www.biofuels.coop for more info.

    Thanks!

Fuel is $5/gal at the co-op and $5.25 at the other locations (the co-op makes it's own on-spec ASTM tested fuel out of feedstock collected by, well, you guessed it, the feedstock manager they were trying to hire. We still have to be more expensive than diesel to not get 'sucked dry' but we can be cheaper than Industrial's fuel).

I used to live in NC so it's basically moving back 'home' to the East Coast. I'm still doing some traveling to teach, took a break here this summer but it starts back up for me in September when I've got a class in New York and then in Florida.

Dave just got knee surgery and was laid up for a while, if you have his email address he'll probably appreciate the 'hi'.

    Mark
