    Small scale biodiesel in Ireland

Ive been making biodiesel for  2 years now.  I run my car, a Mercedes 250 , my central heating and even generate some of my own electricity with B100.  I heat my workshop with a stove that burns  my by products cleanly.  The same stove provides heat for my still which recovers methanol from my glycerol. The total cost of my fuel is under 15cents per litre.  Even after I pay the taxman his 37cents per litre I am still saving a hellova lot of money. I am happy to pass on my knowledge and experience. More people should be doing this, everyday tons of waste veg oil are being dumped into landfill instead of being used to produce quality fuel. Anyone who is interested in starting to make their own biodiesel is welcome to come along and see how it is done.  I make a 150 litre batch every two weeks, usually on Saturday morning.  Im in Lismore, County Waterford and if you want to contact me ring 086 3169230.

I'd love to find out how you are doing this.

Maybe I could come down some time and see your setup. I'm in Mullingar but the trip would be worth it.

Here is a picture of my biodiesel processor, I made it from steel oildrums, standard plumbing fittings and salvage wood.  it cost about 500 euro and makes 150 litres of biodiesel in two and a half hours.

What do you use for your raw oil? Do you need an Elsbeth converter for your diesel car?

    Thanks.

Hi Kurt,  I use waste vegetable oil from 3 local restuarants, that provides me with 70 to 80 litres a week.  I process a batch every two weeks.  Diesel engine cars do not require any modification to run on biodiesel, in fact most engines run smoother and cleaner on it.  I know of several cases of older cars which failed the NCT emmissions test on ordinary diesel, retested and passed on biodiesel.

Hello Neville, sorry I didnt reply sooner, things have been busy here.  I built all of my own equipment from steel oildrums, salvage wood and standard plumbing fittings.  The components cost 5 to 600 euro for everything. If you want more details visit www.imakebiodiesel.com.
