Biodiesel in SW Washington (State not District)

Good Afternoon, I am presently using BD for fuel our generator, as our only power source, and am in the process of assembling part for an Appleseed processor. I am interested in getting together with anyone else in the area that is interested in BD. I also plan to replace our car and truck with BD fueled versions and am planning to build a strawbale off-grid home. I live NE of Woodland, WA and have an office in downtown Vancouver(WA not BC). If you are interested in sharing info drop me a reply. Thanks!

Good to find some folks nearby. I'm in Olympia and working on getting supplies. My community has been using straight wvo in the generators and I have made a wvo burning stove but I'm ready to start working on bd or ethanol. I haven't looked that much but it seems that I don't have any good leads on methanol sources within any reasonable distance. I'd like to know how your projects are turning out.

Are you the fellow who is building a Strawbale House near Woodland that I ran into some months back at the rebuilding center in N. Ptld? I was wondering how it is going? I would like to come see how it is going and have a look at your design. I live in Portland and have CO friends in strawbale and want to find out what we can do here. Innocent.( Mike )

Mike, I frequent Rebuild now and then but I don't remember talking to anyone there. I am out near Lake Merwin. There haven't been any permitted strawbale house in Cowlitz county so I will be breaking some new ground. I think that we will build a storage building first and give the building code folks some idea of what we want to do and work out bugs. I hope to start this summer on the storage building. Drop me an email. Bob

I am new to this site so forgive me if I am doing this reply in the wrong place. I live in shelton, WA and have set up a bio-diesel plant based on the appleseed design using a 50gal hot water heater. I have started collecting waste veg oil from the local Taco Bell. My question is,where can I get Metanol in large quantities? have you come up with a source yet? John W.

I am in Bonney Lake and I am planning on switching over to Biodiesel and strait veg oil. I have been looking for people in the area to share info with. I am in the info gathering stage at this point but before I built a system I am trying to figure out the best way to go. Does anyone have a system that I can come and take a look at?

Have you found a supplier for Methanol yet? Have you tried Tarr Industries? I think that is what it is called? Got any good sources for oil. I need about 1500-2000 gal/month. Would be happy to trade fuel for oil. Mark Baker 850-376-1635. Springfield, Oregon.

http://www.tarr-inc.com/ has a facility in Seattle. Try them. Got any resources for bulk oil? About 2000 gallons/month? Know anyone who would want to trade oil for quality fuel? mark Baker Springfield, Oregon. 850-376-1635

Re: Biodiesel in SW Washington (State not District)

I live about 30 miles west of Olympia, near Elma. I have an Appleseed processor set up and I have produced my first 30 gal batch. Here are some pictures... http://www.forums.biodieselnow.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12097 I bought my Methanol and KOH from Tarr, LLC in Auburn. I am currently collecting from 7 restaurants in the Elma / McCleary / Porter Area. I am hoping to produce about 20 - 40 gallons every 1 - 2 weeks. That should be enough to run my truck on B100. I would be glad to get together with others to chat about biodiesel, or if anyone wants to see a processor in action, just send me an Email. V.E.      Bob:

I have been in touch with a couple who own a farm in Pt. Ludlow, WA, who, when they retire, want to build a 10,000 sq. ft. bed and breakfast on their farm.  They own 73 acres.  My interest is in helping them build the B&B, but on the understanding that some of the land would be devoted to covered ponds in which to grow Chlorella vulgaris for extraction of algal oil, and some barn space in which I could build a 500 gallon reactor.  Thus far they have not accepted my offer and I am open to any location where I can use my current designs for an algae-to-biodiesel system with no land rent, a place to park my 35' travel trailer and hookups.  If I can co-locate with anyone, I would start-out as a tenant, then engage others to form a Biodiesel User's Group (BUG), such that they could bring WVO in from restaurants, make their own B99 at cost and help me out on the algae farm in return for the use of the equipment.  Eventually, the BUG could create its own location and production facility.

I recall that Portland has a BUG and California has two very large BUGs.  Give me your email address and I can send you some academic papers I have written and give me your phone number.  My landline is 541-757-9797.  If you have Skype, you can call me free on the Skype network at: jimmiller5417.

    Jim
