Re: Trash Pump Do's and Don'ts....Mostly Don'ts

Hey car54, I am planning on getting that same Robin 1" pump from Harbor Freight. Just checked yesterday, and they are out of stock at the local HF. They sell it for about $250. I'm glad to hear that it is working well for you... I can't wait to start using it (and stop using my sloooow 12v pump). Too bad it's not diesel-powered! -Jesse 2003 VW Golf TDI 2003 MB Sprinter 1985 MB 300D Bio/WVO

Check eBay for pumps! You will see a lot of them with blue paint jobs with a GX160 or GX140 engine. That engine is made by Honda and is a damn fine engine!! They are very cheap because Honda paints theirs red and sells them at a premium because of the Honda name. The engines that are painted blue are the "generic" brand, but use the exact same components!! This pump below I was able to purchase from eBay through megamegaforce (6657) for $185.00 shipped to my door and it does a bangup job of transfering oil, I couldn't be happier! Oh and that seller shipped it within two days, gave me a tracking number, and did I mention, it's spankin new?? So you know I'm serious, click http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7593735242&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 to see the auction I bought it from. Check out his other pumps. I couldn't be happier. I'm just trying to save you all some serious cash. Do yourself a favor, go to eBay! Newport News, Virginia

I'm interested in the pump on ebay, but a little worried about the input and discharge connections. Are they threaded? Can a kamlok be installed? It's hard to tell from the pictures how you made your connections. Please advise, Thanks, LT

I picked up my Robin 1" pump yesterday from HF. I got some "Spa Flex" hose (PVC glue-able) and attached a ball valve and a hard PVC dip tube for the suction end, and a length of 1" braided hose for the discharge end. BTW, the pump housing has male threads, and it comes with two fittings that adapt it to 1" hose barb. Off to the restaurants! My brother and I collected 165 gallons of WVO in record time! The pump is quiet enough not to bother anyone, and is incredibly small and lightweight. Much better than the 12v pump we had been using! It is only 12" from front (pump) to back (engine), and only 11 pounds! -Jesse 2003 VW Golf TDI 2003 MB Sprinter 1985 MB 300D Bio/WVO

Jesse, not being diesel doesnt matter. As far as I can tell, it doesnt actually consume any gasoline. Ive been running it on the first tankful for hours! It is one of the best running engines ive seen. I setup a valve manifold so I can hook it to a tote and use it to both collect oil and pump the oil out of the tote and into the processor when I am back at home. Flip a few valves and it empties the oil. I use a hard PVC dip tube for collection and fitted it with a foot valve so I dont drip oil everywhere. Watch out for those fittings it came with.. I broke one in cold weather. I screwed hard PVC fittings down and built the valve manifold out of solid pvc. My goal is no leaks, as I am using my motorcycle trailer for collection. I dont want it to stink like oil when I am done.

Can some one recommend a good make and model trash pump for waste oil pumping?

Wow that was a story thread... 250 gallons that is alot of money or fuel down the drain.. do you have to dispose of the absorbant as hazardous?

I wouldn't think so.. but just asking. Man hope I never spill that much. But thanks for the tip on the oil absorb. And yes since I am very capable of

doing something of that nature. I had a nice belly laugh as well.. thanks
