after meeting a few people and making a few full batches to show the process.. I've learned one big thing...
TIME.
the time it takes to really make a batch is too long from start to end. I changed my Appleseed to run off of 110 so it takes at least 1 hour for the oil to heat to 130, then it only takes 5 min to mix the lye and methanol but then takes an hour to blend. then its a 6-8 hour wait, drain the gly, off then mist for 4-5 hours, drain, mist again for 2-hours, drain, fill with 1/3 water and bubble for 4-5 hours, then dry...
I was lucky enough, this weekend to have a wash batch AND a new batch so i was able to show the last steps and the very beg. steps.
I still think the best way is how Travis L. puts it. "you can learn all you need from making test batches" and heres why...
unless you have an Appleseed or something up and ready to go, your not going to get the full 100% out of it. I watched Travis make a few batches, my set up is pretty close to his. However... my process is completely diff from his. its all about just doing, and learning as you go. Your going to make mistakes, that's ok. it took me 4 bad batches to get my first FULL 25gal good batch. but what i learned from that's is, now if something doesn't look right, I can fix myself. I don't need to have to call anybody about it. And that makes me feel pretty good. =o)
Don't get me wrong here.. i think we could all learn a lot from doing "met & greets" but i think the most would be learned by going over notes and pic's.
bottom line.. IT REALLY IS THAT EASY TO MAKE IT!!! =o)
all that being said, I'm still up for a meeting sometime soon. I've met some really good people in the last few months. and besides, i need to pick some peoples ideas about the weather changes coming up VERY soon and how to deal with that...
