I would also be up for large scale purchase of WVO. We are thinking of switching the house over to waste oil burner furnace and need a steady and reliable supply. Quality of the oil is not important.

    Re: Cooperative

I'm in Stockbridge (SE Ingham CO), but I'm interested. I haven't made any fuel yet, but I am a research scientist, I can probably follow a protocol. As far as I know, the few restaurants in Stockbridge are unclaimed territory for WVO. I run my little Kubota 1510 on B100 in the summer (15 gallons, tops), and wouldn't mind up to few hundred gallons for blending with my heating oil. Small potatoes. Rob (first post... whee!)

I HAD BEEN TOSSING AROUND THE IDEA OF TRYING TO START A COOPERATIVE WHEN I RAN ACROSS THIS SITE. I LIVE NEAR GRATIOT AND MAYER ROAD IN ST. CLAIR COUNTY, ABOUT HALF WAY BETWEEN CHESTERFIELD AND PORT HURON. I LACK THE TECHNICAL EXPERTISE. IF WE GET ENOUGH PEOPLE INVOLVED, I WOULD THINK WE COULD AFFORD TO HAVE AN EXPERIENCED PERSON COME TO TRAIN US, OR HIRE A CHEMIST AS A CONSULTANT. THERE SEEMS TO BE A FAIR NUMBER OF INTERESTED PEOPLE. PERHAPS WE SHOULD HAVE AN INFORMAL MEETING SOMEWHERE. KERFMEISTER

kerfmeister, I appreciate your interest in biofuels, and welcome you to the forum. However, I would be remiss if I did not inform you that typing in all caps is considered impolite. Please do not be offended by this comment, I merely wish to prevent you from continuing in a behavior that will eventually cause you to be chastised much more harshly. I reiterate, I only point this out of concern for your welfare.

    Re: Cooperative

Hello all... sorry for not checking in as frequently as I should. The state of MI has approved a small grant to develop a business plan and design for our proposed biodiesel coop in the Detroit metro area. The goal would be to start one, of course, but also create a model & blueprint to carbon copy these anywhere, of any size. Yes, the tax, EPA, and other issues are daunting. Storage tanks, blending tax credits, production licensing, sales tax, fed excise tax, MI road tax, etc.... all have to be figured out. Producing fuel for off road sure looks easier !!!! I will post info on the www.biodieselmichigan.com web site as i get more. Anyone interested in a bioidiesel processor / business workshop sometime this winter??? Jim Leidel Oakland Univ.

    Re: Cooperative

Hi. Our community is eager to assist co-ops looking to locate a facility that could serve the Detroit Metro area as well as Mid-Michigan. We are a very aggresive rural community that has excellent rail and freeway access (I-69). We also have several local farmers who have invested in alternative fuel techonologies and are eager to do more. Free land could be an option for the right co-op group. If you have a group with serious interest, please email me at jborgstrom@shiawasseechamber.org. Thanks, Joe Borgstrom, President Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce & Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership

    Re: Cooperative

Just as an fyi, I'm now back in town. Kazakhstan was very interesting - Very glad to finally be home though. Jim, I apparently have some reading to get caught up on - (I saw your email regarding the results of the grant - i'll get back to you after I have had a chance to read and review it.) Joe - Thank you very much for stopping by our forums. Its really a great thing to see a local Chamber of Commerce taking a serious interest in alternative energy production. I know the area where you are at and it would definately not be a bad location. Hopefully something can be worked out in the near future. Best regards, Wes McKenzie

    Re: Cooperative

I would be interested in a workshop as mentioned in the 10/14/05 post. (The more I learn, the less I seem to know.) I also wonder if anyone would like to go for a group tour of the plant in Ohio.

Bio Cat, where is the plant in Ohio? I would be interested. I don't know what I could do with the coop but I am interested and so is my coworker with his TDI.

    Re: Cooperative

I would be interested in pitching in on a Coop or/and attending a workshop as mentioned by BioCat. Is anyone familiar with State Representative Dick Ball and his initiative to bring a BioDiesel plant to Shiawassee County? Does anyone know if that has gone anywhere? Stechschulte's Gas & Oil Company sells a BioDiesel Mix in Owosso but only as a bulk delivery.

I'm in Detroit.  I've got the appleseed processor and info from girlmark's class and am starting to build it.  I'll join and want local people to Detroit to start or join a collective here.
