Re: current feece oil b100 price

On 8/4/2007, the B99 price was $3.27 a gallon inclusive of all taxes.  The Kane County tax has gone from 2 cents to 4 cents, that's why it's 3.27 now instead of 3.25.

Those folks at Feece are very nice people.

I just wish someone could put a station in a place that's more central to the Chicago metro area.

I have to ask, is this gouging based on the expected cost of petro-diesel, or is there some real basis for such a high price?

I don't know what's driving the price of B100 at Feece.  Maybe I'll drop by and ask.

Re: current feece oil b100 price

For about the last 18 months or so they weren't actually selling B100.  They we selling something like B99 so that they could pass on tax credits for blending to the consumer.  So at that time B100 would go for say, $4.00 a gallon and B99 would go for $3.05.  So buying B99 was dramatically cheaper than B100.   Yes, it seems odd, but that's what Illinois' govt decided would increase the use of biodiesel as a whole.  (They should have just given the tax credit for plain old B100 too instead of just blends.)

So perhaps Feece is back to selling full B100 or the tax credits expired.

I probably should have done the research before I posted that last comment.  But the increased price of soy oil is the driver of this major price increase.  All agricultural commodities (wheat, corn, soy, etc) are shooting through the roof lately.  Perhaps it's time either algae or biomass comes more into the biodiesel focus now.  Using food crops for fuel is convenient now, but over the long term conflicts will become ever more frequent and have a larger impact.

The last time I bought B100 there was about two years ago and I paid around $3 a gallon (at that time it was about 25% more than dino-diesel). I don't think that the comodity or production costs have doubled in that time.

btw: Feece's B99 price was $5.67 on Apr 26.  B1 was going for $4.30.  At Thorton's in my hood, D2 was going for $4.39.

Weds May 14 2008, B99.9 was at $5.67 WITH taxes; their D2 (may actually be B01) was $4.459/gal.
