New to this as I am, as a lexington native, it seems like there's enough environmentalism and cooperative spirit (not to mention older diesel mercedes, diesel trucks and other diesel vehicles) that some motivated people could get a co-op going, maybe even with some collaboration with the food co-op people here in town who've had good success with that venture. Until I can get myself a diesel benz though, I guess i'm stuck thinking it out and driving my gasser. Fielding Isaacs

Hi Fielding, You should check out VW's TDIs. They're a BLAST to drive. I use a blend of petro and Biodiesel in mine!

Josh and I haven't been able to hook up, but maybe we should all get online together and brainstorm. A friend of mine in Tylersville Ohio drives to Columbus to get us B100, but I'd like to arrange a closer supply. There is a "still" called the Fuelmeister which makes Biodiesel production pretty easy, but I have no place to store it. Its about $3000.00 but has filters and warmers. I think it would pay for itself fairly quickly especially if some of you who are close together went in on it. As with any new technology it takes time to build an infrastucture for distribution. So in the meantime we "pioneers" will have to do the extra work and go the extra mile. Email me if you want to chat.

I live in Versailles, kentucky. I already have a 5000 gallon tank to store the fuel in, already have an old diesel pump to pump the fuel, also have a farm right on the BG parkway to produce the fuel on. I am looking for somebody that may be interested in going in on purchasing a Production unit with in the Lexington, Kentucky area.

I work for a restaurant management company in Louisville. I am interested in trying to convert some of our waste oil (~500 gallons/week in Louisville-Lexington alone) into biodiesel. I want to try this as a kind of promotion for now (though my girlfriend does drive a Beetle TDI) but also take a serious look at the business potential. Has anyone been to the Butler, KY biodiesel plant?

I am interested in getting involved as well. I live in Falmouth and drive near Versailles at least every other month or so. I have no experience producing biodiesel, limited time and cash to spend at the moment, but i do have a step van than runs on svo and i could definitley contribute some wvo to the cause and help pay for some methanol. Plenty of metalworking equipment, pumps, barrels, valves, etc laying around that could all come in handy. Please let me know if it would be possible for me to see your setup in action, or even help put it into action if i can. thanks, Paul

I'm about 30 minuts south of Lex and am now on the second batch. First batch is in my Dodge Ram running like a dream, even this morning when it was 23 F (50% mix with petrol) I basically built girl marks Appleseed processor. With only slight experience with plumbing and electricty it's simiple to build. I'll admit, getting started is a hassle rounding up everything and it's a bit overwelming to jump into the project, but so far worth it. I've learned alot. I'd be happy to talk you some of you if you have questions. I would recommend making a few test batches using the Dr. Pepper method first. You'll know better what to expect.

Alex, What do you do with you oil right now? Just curious. The Rsraraunt I get mine from get was basically giving theres away to a waste company. I've not been to the Butler plant, but It's my understanding there process is quite a bit different than the homebrew stuff, and my use all new oil. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I am a student at henry clay high school and i am pursuing biodiesel as my senior project. I have been researching biodiesel carefully, and decided its pretty amazing. I have to get my current vehicle sold before i can buy a diesel car. I would love to  participate in any co-op for biodiesel, as i live on a farm.  Did any of these coops get started?
