    WVO from restaurants - contracts

Guys, I've been lucky enough to be getting oil from a local Applebees for 6 mos now.  But as I was looking for another source today, I realized he's probably breaking the contract with Carolina Byproducts.  Maybe the manager knows it, maybe he doesn't, I don't know.  I reached that conclusion because I called Carolina ByProducts and spoke to the gentleman who was over contracts in the Fayetteville NC area.  As I go on my search, every restaurant has their oil being collected either by Carolina Byproducts or a similar company.

My question is how do individual homebrewers go about negotiating for oil with restaurant managers.  I've met some really nice store managers who like the idea of their oil being used for biodiesel, but then there's the dreaded contract.  Some restaurants have been with these companies for 30 yrs, as the gentleman told me today.  He did say their contracts are usually renewed every year.  Short of waiting on a restaurants contract to run out, I'd love some dicussion on this subject.

tell them what you want to do with the wvo

    tell them you are local

that you pick up at other restaurants in the area

tell them how long you have been brewing and that you will be around for aslong as you can do it

    (main point I emphasize below)

I tell my suppliers to keep their oil contractors and put the scraps and other garbage oil in there. this way they can ditch me if I screw up or if I miss a week they can simply put it in the bin and no burden on them! aslong as the oil contractors bin is outside you dont leave the restaurant owner in a pinch and yourself, for that matter!

    Neil,

I am in the Fayetteville, NC area and I am looking at getting started with bio diesel or SVO but I dont know much about it. I was wondering if you would be interested in joining heads on this. I have already worked out some good sources for oil. I would love to see the whole thing in action instead of just winging it on a newer truck. Please feel free to email me at lanemck@optonline.net

    Two things come to mind.

    1. Hire a lawyer, form a LLC, and have him/her draw up a contract.

    2. Offer more money than the other guy.
