Hello juicer; Glad to see more people taking the leap! As far as store bought reactors go---- I am partial to Extreme Biodiesel's product in the $3000-3500 range. On the other end there is an all stainless steel reactor (around $8000) that has a good reputation. Many people, myself included, built their own systems. Their is a lot of info out there (see apleseed reactor, Girl Mark) Frank

thanks for the reply Frank, I would love to build my own but of course am not fully confident it would work as well as a store bought one. I am an electrical contractor and have a welding shop and all of the tools and space necessary just would need plans and such.  I'd like to build at least an 80 gallon processor w/ poly tanks. Any info on plans would be great thanks, Joe

    Juicer,

As are you, I am here in Fresno and kicking the tires on building a system.  With the shop, room and equipment you describe, I would definitely build my own instead of buying.

As far as store bought models go, I have seen only one up and running here in Fresno.  It is from this company  http://homebiodiesel.com/processor/ but not the model pictured here.  The one I have seen is a 40 gallon system.

Being semi-retired, I probably have more time than brains but biodiesel does pique my interest (along with other forms of alternate energy).   My yearly usage is not huge and so the amount of money saved is of secondary interest to the principle of alternate energy.

Have you checked out the resources on the web such as the following?

Appleseed Plans;  Crude but workable.  http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/appleseedprocessor/

Construction plans for biodiesel plants.  http://www.murphysmachines.com/

Other suppliers and plans sources.  http://www.b100supply.com/Default.asp?Click=1&Redirected=Y   http://www.utahbiodieselsupply.com/

I might be able to get you in to see the system mentioned above in use.  Will ask this week-end and all he can say is no which is likely.

Would be interested in getting together with you to see if we might be in a good mutual aid type of situation.

thanks for the info guys.  I did go see the biopro 190 in action at the fresno dealer, thanks.  I was all ready to purchase that thing too then i found out that my truck might not run biodiesel. I have an 08 chevy duramax and was reading in the forum that its not good for the injectors or something so i called to dealer and sure enough if they find out you run it your warranty is void.  That was a real bummer i was all fired up to get going.  I still might get a system if i can trade my current gas service truck for a diesel, but still would like to meet/ collaborate w/ you guys here in fresno, let me know.  Joe

    Hi Juicer27,

I have a 07 LBZ Duramax and I am going to run B-50 in it, if I was you I would check out www.dieselplace.com  There you can ask other 08 owners if they are running the stuff. GM say's it is ok to run B-5 so who knows.

Is your truck dealer confusing this with straight vegetable oil vs. ASTM spec type biodiesel. I run a Cummins in a Dodge and I know in years later than mine, the mapped injector events do not like SVO but will run a blend.   This is the first I have heard of problems with running biodiesel but then again, I am not running a Duramax so don't follow that closely.

Be happy to buy you and Lindsay a beer one of these fine evenings.

Re: need advice on equipment purchase

The emission equipment to remove NOX emissions (nitrogen oxide emissions) will get fouled up when running in a new clean diesel motor on biodiesel. Ironically enough, despite ALL the other reductions biodiesel has to offer in the way of pollution, NOX is the only emission that is increased with biodiesels use. You can cut back timing in order to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions;moreover, then you add unburnt fuel to the engine and increase soot output. All in all, clean diesels in America are probably one of the cleanest forms of of internal combustion motors out there on the world market. However, biodiesel in these engines still runs a chance but with a smaller percentage at a time. Minnesota is doing B20 in their state by 2012 or 2015 (cant remember right now). Honestly I am sure, in due time, car companies will expand the higher use of biodiesel in their engines as a whole. Especially if only one state does it, a pattern will most likely continue elsewhere. The University of Illinois is trying to positively charge biodiesel to control the burn and make it last longer while reducing emissions even further. Early tests show success and a good chance for biodiesel in a new era of diesel motors.
