    ford 250 users post here

Hello all, I currently have an 04 f150 and have been thinking of purchasing a new 250 for quite some time now. I having had the opportunity to meet anyone with a f250 diesel using bio all of the time. I work in the oil and gas industry therefore feel like I would be capable of building my own bio system with poly tank and such followed by the making of bio fuel. But my inexperiance is limited due to no knowledge of performance of the 6.0's. If you could kindly post I would greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions. I believe there are alot of F250's out there. This could be a great thread. Thanks, Dave

Just sold my 04 f250 gas burner and bought a 04 powerstroke today. Will start running b20 tomorrow. I've been running b100 in my 92 f350 with 89 cummins w/o any problems but I was wondering about the 6.0 on b100. Glad somebody else has been doing it. I just keep reading about how touchy the 6.0 can be, I hope it can handle the b100 like the cummins because that's what I bought it for. I guess I need to buy a duramax and cram it into a ford and then I'll have the top three selling light diesels all in ford platforms. After all, the superduty is the best looking truck out there........ 1992 Ford 1-ton 4x4 CC SRW Cummins 6BT on Biodiesel http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=viewAllPhotos&albumID=552405584&security=redeVO

Do a search for F-250 or 6.0 on the production forum. the 6.0's are VERY finiky about their fuel. My brother in law has one and it runs fine most of the time, but my VW is much more forgiving of shoddy production than his Ford. 2006 VW Golf TDI

I'm running my own B100 in my 1984 F-350 6.9L Truck. I have only been running it for 10 miles. I'll keep posting on progress. It is running fine right now. I'm looking to replace the fuel hoses and filter soon. Anyone know where and what kind of lines to buy? Thank you. Srgarcia1

I am looking at a f250 7.3 powerstroke turbo. It has 216k on it. I know once i start running b100 (or what ever blend i can find) i'll need to start changing the fuel filter more often. I'm a handy guy, but no auto mechanic. My question is: where is the fuel filter located? Is it relatively accessible? Is it like an in-line jobby with hose clamps on either side that i can swap out fairly easily or are we talking more like an oil filter and need an oil filter wrench (or in this case a fuel filter wrench?). I have seen folks talk about the fuel line issue, if understand correctly, a 96 shouldnt be much of an isse....can anyone second/corroborate this? Long term, I'd like to put a greasel or frybid system on the second tank, run filtered SVO in it, start and stop on biodiesel, tell big oil and the middle east to suck it and as one british homebrew how to stated "laugh like f--k" when i run on homebrew or svo (you might have seen it) thanks in advance for any input/sdvise/warnings/etc "This is where I would put my favorite inspirational quote" -- Drew

Th eold 6.9's seem to work fine. My 1986 has been slurping the B-D for over a year now - mostly B99. Quieted down, and runs fine. Maybe a >little< less power - but a whole lot less smoke - that is for sure (PM=7 vs PM=33 on last and prev emission tests) -kDavid ----------------- "If you can't understand how something works, keep disassembling it until you can..." -BioDiesel F250 6.9L

thanks kdavid..... Can anyone comment on the accessibility of the fuel filter? I see lots of people suggesting a clear inline prefilter. Where is the fuel filter located? How easy/difficult is it to change? Thanks Drew "This is where I would put my favorite inspirational quote" -- Drew

Javelinr---- you can run any b-blend in it from what i understand.... it may void any warranty you have left on it but from what i understand there are ways to get around trhis (pump out any bio-d before taking it in for work) SPINX?? I hear there are several throughout SC (none close enough to Charlotte Area though) that carry B20 Do you know of any bioD available to the public near Rock Hill or Cheraw? I have a 01 2001 F250 SD that I have run 16,000 miles with b100. No problems except for changing the fuel filter after the second tank and using B100 in the winter. Even with the block heater plugged in the Cannola Oil from the Chinese resturant has too much chicken fat from chicken wings and it will thicken up too much at about 32 degrees when the truck sits out all night. Other than that and getting about 2 miles less per gallon it has been great.

I actually bought bought a month or two a go, a F250 V8 Powerstroke diesel, 4x 4, it's a 2000 but has high miles (208,000). I bought it for two reasons. The first was that I wanted to haul my horse, the second was that I wanted to haul my horse in the most enviro-friendly way possible. So I got it, and started running it on B99 last week. I've now run it about 40 miles (ok I know that's not much) but it's while hauling a three horse trailer (haven't put the horse in it yet), but it's a big steel trailer) and it seems to run just fine on the B99 pulling the trailer. And instead of diesel fumes, my horse gets to breathe something that smells a lot like French Fries! But since it does have high miles I would definitely like to know more about changing the fuel filter-- I don't want to get stuck anywhere with my horse in the the trailer! Camilla

Camilla-- I have tried a few times by posting a question here to locate teh fuel filter and find more info... no luck as of yet. If you find out through another avenue, please share your knowledge on the board here. Thanks Drew "This is where I would put my favorite inspirational quote" -- Drew

In my glove box there is an Owner's Guide and behind it is a little book about the engine that is called an Owner's guide supplement. Under General Maintenance Information it gives directions on how to change out a fuel filter. On the very back page is a picture of the engine with a diagram of where to locate the fuel filter drain valve.

Drew: The filter is right up on top & center of the engine compartment. If your not 7' tall you'll need a step ladder to reach it w/out getting grime down you're front. It's under the coweling of the turbo logo piece. There's a little lever on the back lower part (towards the passenger side) that you can open to dump the cup out. We bought a '99 F250 7.3L diesel w/ 169k on her last summer. The only issue we've had was the IDM going out on me. I'm also looking to switch "Myrtle" over to biodiesel but having a heck of a time finding a station in San Antonio,TX.

Drew, My filter is right on top, starboard side. Hard to miss, and available from any C/S/K or Napa dealer. The filter has a large capacity, so your engine may just bog down a bit as the petro-gunk gets caught in it - but it should not leave you stranded... - kDavid ----------------- "If you can't understand how something works, keep disassembling it until you can..." -BioDiesel F250 6.9L

THanks to all for the fuel filter info.... whis forum is great and very helpful and friednly which is not always the case in forums... "Pepe" is in the driveway with two tanks full of B20 from Salisbury NC.... the closest retail pump (about 40 miles away) My wife is great, she let our Friday night date be "getting biodiesel" and we ate italian food.... I was even able to parallel park by big-ass truck on a narrow side street on the first attempt (must of been the bio-d!!) (flashback to before the b20 fill-up) I had a 6 gallon tank of b100 from a pump in asheville nc and put that in the rear tank. After a trip around the block to work it through i came home and shut down for the night. In the morning, about 55 deg, pepe didnt want to start. cranks cranks cranks and lots of white smoke, but not catching. I figured it was the b100 gelling..... this may be incidental, but i plugged the block heater in, and after about 3 minutes i cranked and he started...... would the block heater have made that much difference in 3 minutes??? anyhow for now i'll try the b20...am collecting my first thai food restaurant batch of grease this weekend to begin settling..... thanks again! Our `89 F250 7.3 non-pwrstrk has been running B100 for over seven years now. Popped an interinjector line once but that`s about it. Seems to like the bean much better than the Devil`s Tea, runs quieter, smoother. I`ll be replacing her with a 12 valve Cummins when the time comes though.
