Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
I don't know how I got on a mail list for this auctioneer, but a micro-brewery in PA has gone out of business and this stuff looks like biodiesel cooker's dream equipment.
I've been curious about biodiesel for a while and registered for this BBS just to pass it on.

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
Oberlin College club Biodiesel Oberlin in NE Ohio is working to produce and distribute biodiesel made from used cooking oil. It currently has a mobile production unit, and is working to set up a coop for local consumers to use the production unit to make their own, home-made biodiesel. The production unit is an engineering feat--a foot-powered, bicycle-like contraption to churn the mix. Very green. They use the mobile unit to collect the cooking oil from around town, from restaurants and cafeterias. Soon, you will be able fill up in Oberlin, and get a work out in the process!

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
Roger,
If you are involved with this, or don't mind mentioning when someone will be using the 'contraption' [:D], I'd love to visit. I'm in NE Ohio almost every week and could easily be whereever a group is 'brewing' some biodiesel. (warmer weather would be preferred if we are talking outdoors!)
Thanks for mentioning.

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
I tried to get some biodiesel from Great Lakes Petroleum, but was given a runaround and could not get it. Does anyone else know who I might contact there to get some?

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
I've purchased biodiesel recently from Great Lakes with no problems. Just contact Ray Holan and set up a time. Current price is $3/gal.

Matt,
If you haven't figured it out yet, Ray Holan is from Biodiesel Cleveland, which is in the Great Lakes Brewing Company, not from Great Lakes Petroleum. Remember, beer goes better with vegetable oil than petroleum.

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
FYI - to all interested.
I have recently (in the past week) contacted both McWherter, and Downward Distributing in Carrolton. Neither of these companies will sell B100 in less than a 55 gal drum. For those of us in cars and wagons, that creates quite a transport problem.
Although, the good news is that in speaking with Keith @ Downward Distributing, he mentioned to me that he wants to take his "card access" diesel tank and switch it over to B100 so that people can just pull up and fill up thier tanks. There is no set timetable, but if he speaks to some of his larger purchasers, and they are interested, it may just happen. I will keep you posted.
Does anyone know of any OTHER companies/people in the NE or even Central OH area who are willing to sell B100 in less than a 55 gal quantity?

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
I've talked with Keith at McWherter in regard to B100 as well. (actually trying to convince him to blend B99.9 [;)] for tax purposes) The challenge for those without a dedicated B100 pump is that they need to use manpower to fill your car or jugs. This is just not smart business as the profit to fill such a small tank and risk involved in the storage facility is too high.
I'm hoping that we'll find a couple Ohio distributors that are willing to sell a 'tax incentified' B___ to those of us willing to purchase larger quantities and redistribute. I have been doing that the last couple of years with a few local users ... but even that is a hassle.
I'm currently working on another solutions for those of you interested in larger tote sized B100 use. (its a tiny lightweight wheeled tank that you can hitch to your car) Keith has indicated that dropping something like that off for him to fill at his convenience would not be a problem. I'll post the prototype when it is finished and whoever wants to make the investment can chat with me)

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
Rich,
Now THAT sounds like exactly what I would be looking for. Wouldn't hurt to have either if you go the homebrew method too - nothing like a towable gas station!
Look forward to the information...

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
Never dealt with them. After what you said, I am pretty hesitant to as well. But, maybe I will give a call over and see what's what. I also am going to try Chardon Oil. If they can carry methanol, maybe...Here's hoping for B100!

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
I just returned from Portsmouth and saw a Sunoco station just south of 104 on Rt 23 (south of Circleville) that had a Soy-Bio sign. I pulled in and the gals at the desk didn't know much, but they thought it was B2. It was 2.39/gal.

That is what I like to see ... a start! Patronize them and keep convince them to go to a higher blend! (it may currently be more profitable for a distributor/blender to sell biodiesel than just D2 if they factor the tax credit ... they generally don't have to play the pricing game with the stations on the same block. Even at a higher price for B20-99 they'll have buyers.)

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
I purchased B5 at a station in Marion today. It is at 587 delaware ave just north of Marion General Hospital on the same side of the street. The station is an old Gulf station and it is on pump 3. I paid 2.649 today and the cheapest I saw in Marion was 2.599. Not to bad....

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Ohio
Found another site in Marion. There is a commercial filling station on RTE309 between 96 and 23. They only accept commercial fuel cards or you can apply for one of their cards and get billed monthly. They currently only provide B2 but may increase it depending on how this works out. They are owned my central ohio farm coop. Their prices are pretty competitive with paying 2.579 with most other stations sitting at 2.599. You can veiw current prices at centralohfarm.com as they do not advertise prices at the fueling station.
