Columbus Co-op

Is there any interest in a Columbus Co-op? I'm probably going to have a source in the Short North area, but I wanted to see if anyone else would like to get in on it.

I'd be interested to know if you get it going. I'm in Toledo but I make a run to Columbus every month or two.

Mukayi, Kind of quiet here, perhaps you jump start the Columbus Coop crowd. I'm down in Cincinnati and drive to Delaware, Ohio to get my biodiesel at the Fuel Depot. (McWherters) You can't go wrong getting your biodiesel there. Rich

I won't be pursuing this until the weather gets warmer. I'm just using the B20 pump for now. I think there's been enough interest to get it going though. I'll keep you posted.

Julie, any progress? The trips up to Delaware, while nice are starting to wear thin.

It looks like I'll be leaving town in a couple months so I don't think I can spear-head this project but I will help if someone else wants to do it. Also the North Market in Columbus where I work is having a hard time getting rid of their WVO. If someone wants to make biodiesel, I will help collect it.

I'm from Dayton and would be very interested in joining a co-op. http://www.utahbiodiesel.org seems very organized and we need something like it in this region. I have virtually no experience in chemistry, but have goals of making it, using it, and convincing local school districts to use it in their buses. I can contribute dues and time, and and maybe some legal expertise. Although we need someone with a lot of motivation and time to spearhead this. I may be able to help with a website; I made the following if you want to check it out as an example: www.branlaw.com Dave

I agree with DBB. We need to get our co-op off the ground. I am currently making and using biodiesel in my 85 turbo diesel Volvo. I would also like to see some local schools using biodiesel in their buses. I can help out by getting the word out about biodiesel with local schools.

Lyle from www.biolyle.com is sending me materials for a "step-by-step" guide I'd like to complete for encouraging your district to adopt BD. The co-op is another matter. Think there is enough interest?

I think that there could be enough interests, I'm sure that some schools would like to be able to brag that they are using alternative energy in thier buses.

    Re: Columbus Co-op

Greetings fellow Ohio BioDiesel enthusiasts and closet chemists :) I'm interested in collecting unwanted WVO in the Columbus and surrounding area for production of home brew Bio Diesel. I am in the planning stages of design and constuction of a BioDiesel reactor and WVO / Bio Diesel storage facilities with an ETA of 30-45 days until I will be ready to being accepting waste oil on a continious basis if all goes well. I have read several good books and web pages (BioDieselNow included) on this topic, but if anyone has any input on reactor design or prefered transesterfication proceresses I sure would love to hear from you! :) I have a good source for the Methanol in Logan Oh, being www.bazellracefuels.com but could always use a source that is closer to Columbus. The Sodium Hydroxide is easy to get local also, but I am looking for a good source for 10% to 30% Phosphoric Acid and 95% - 98% Sulfuric Acid locally if anyone knows of an inexpensive local supplier. I plan to run mixtures of B20 - B100 ,depending on performance, in a 2001 Dodge 2500 and would love to hear comments from anyone in the Columbus Ohio area who is running on this or another of the Cummins engines. Please post or drop me a private email.

Great to hear you are moving in a positive direction. Not that I'm an expert homebrewer, but have been doing the browsing and experimenting for quite a while now. I'd 'seriously' consider going the 'Appleseed' reactor direction and spend the $14 to support GirlMark for her book, Biodiesel Homebrewers Guide. She pours countless hours of her time into educated those of us willing to listen and has convinced me that dollar for dollar most homebrewers will be miles ahead of other processing setups. If you've been reading our list (or any other), no doubt you have come across her posts and seen her 'hot water tank' workshops and processors being used. Before you going any other direction or spend too much money setting things up, take a look at VeggieAvenger and the Appleseed Reactor. Keep us posted ... I'd connect with you but I'm down in Cincinnati. RichC

    Re: Columbus Co-op

I am in columbus, and would be interested in using/buying any bio you might have left over, so long as it is a good product :) figure I could do about 5 gallons per tankful of b100. (b33 ishy?) there are plenty of chinese restaurants in the whitehall area (where I am located), and all over columbus, probably just need to ask. not sure which would provide the best oil though. where are you located? I would love to see/help build a homebrew appleseed type reactor. did you see the trailer mounted reactor girl mark linked to that was on ebay last week? wow that was a sweet little setup. aaron

    Re: Columbus Co-op

I'm in Columbus as well, and very interested in trying out biodiesel. I just ordered a copy of GirlMark's book, and I'd be interested in helping with any Co-Op/Homebrew projects once I have a chance to do some more reading. Of course, I still need to get ahold of a diesel car that's up to my almost daily drive to Dayton (and on a full time graduate student sallary). (The last car I bought went belly up too quickly :(. It has now become a project car sitting in my parents driveway in Missouri). Paul
