  • Wow. We pulled it off! Five prongs of biodiesel cars and trucks driving all the way across this great land of ours. I want to give a heartfelt thanks to everyone who worked on this relay. You are all pioneers, and you all helped raise awareness of our favorite fuel - biodiesel! We made it onto at least three different TV stations and over a dozen newspapers, nevermind the hundreds of people we met along the way who had never heard of biodiesel. And, of course, we all got to meet some neat, like-minded folks. You should all be proud of your participation and support of this relay. Thank you! Special thanks go out to Suzanne Sumida, the mother of this relay. It was her idea that spawned the relay, and it was her persistence and creativity that made it a reality. I also need to thank the route leaders (who I'm not mentioning by name for fear of forgetting some), without whom the logistics of this would never have been pulled off. And, of course, I need to thank Jim and Merna Williston for being the relay's long-distance drivers (from North Carolina to Arizona and back) and Scott Steiner for driving from Missouri to Colorado and back. I also wanted to thank Jenna Higgins from the NBB for her assistance. This ended up being a lot of fun (and WAY more work than I thought). I greatly appreciate the efforts of everyone who helped, and look forward to doing it again next year, when we're better prepared and more experienced. Thanks, Nate PS. If you haven't seen them, check out the photos - http://relay.biodieselnow.com/relayphotos.asp PPS. I apologize for the delay in writing this and doing all the photos. Things have been crazy here (re-entering school, had a big freelance job, etc), and this slipped to the wayside.
  • your welcome......let's do another event next year too. (maybe a little less ambitious) Jim and Merna
  • Thank You Lisa for delivering the shirts for Merna and me, and THANK YOU to whoever was thoughtful enough to furnish them to us. We appreciate the recognition for driving a leg that we enjoyed. Nate posted only a few of the many images we have of Arches NP taken during the magic twilight hours. Jim and Merna
  • Jenna, from the National Biodiesel Board, was kind enought to provid a bunch of shirts and hats for "awards". I had to try to figure out a fair way to distribute them as we didn't have enough to give everyone. Nate and I decided to give a t-shirt and hat to each "torch bearer" who made it to Maryland. It seemed appropriate for Suza and Nate to each get a shirt, and the last 2 were for the most miles driven, which you and Merna certainly earned. My thanks to Lisa for getting them to you. I thought a personally delivery would be a great idea, and she was more than willing to oblige. You can see some photos of Nate making the "presentation" to Lisa of your shirts on the Northeastern Leg and the Finale photos on this site. We hope to make something available to all of the participants in the future, like the Special Olympics Torch Run does for its runners. We need to fund it some how tho as I don't think the NBB can afford to furnish everyone with a hat and shirt. Maybe we can set up a way for drivers to sign up "sponsors" who are willing to pay a fee or so many cents per mile? Anyway, thanks again to Jim, Merna, Nata, Suza, Jenna, all the leg leaders, drivers, and supporters who helped this year. Lets make next time even better.
