  • The bills change with some frequency, so check these links every couple of weeks.

9/22/03 UPDATE! - PLEASE take action on S.355, S.356, and S.385 in the Senate and ALL the house measures.
Here's the deal. You all can get BD in your state and town by doing this. Click on the links given below and you will be taken to the most recent biodiesel legislation currently active in the House and Senate.
Its an ONE-CLICK and send type of thing. No long letters to compose. You enter your zip code and it hooks you up w/ the senator and congressman in your area and you send a preformed letter promoting biodiesel.
There is also ONE-CLICK links to the news agencies in you area based on the zip you enter and you can send one letter to all the NEWS papers and stations!!

Its that easy! BioDiesel legislation in the SENATE. BioDiesel legislation in the HOUSE.

One more thing, in order to keep the momentum rolling, please post a reply to this post, in order keep the post coming to the top and MORE people read it. Just give us a "Kudos", "bump", "I'm in", etc. It will really help. Even if you don't want to go to the BioDiesel page. Thanks

Here is a sample letter you might want to cut and paste before you go to the site (taken from Mike's edits below):

    SUBJECT
Legislation for the use of biodiesel, an American-grown alternative fuel (the introduction is included as part of the e-mail being sent out so it is not needed)

    BODY
Please consider the following legislation for the use of biodiesel, an alternative fuel. Biodiesel has many positive benefits including:
    1) It decreases the dependence on foreign oil
    2) It decreases emissions to the environment
    3) It helps the economy by keeping fuel dollars at home instead of sending it abroad
    4) It's non-toxic and non-hazardous to the environment (you could drink the stuff)
    5) It increases the life span of auto's and trucks
    6) It preserves a wholesome way of life - Farming
    7) It provides jobs to the American people
It's a win-win situation!! In fact, the only reason NOT to vote for the following amendment(s) might be due to legislative dependence on Big Oil money. Please do the right thing. Vote for this legislation now.
    Thank you for your time.
(Closing is included in the letter so that is not needed either) --------------- For those of you who are good letter writers feel free to alter, add, delete or compose your own sample letter and post it here.

  • Thanks Mike! I had just cleaned up the obvious errors in the other one. Yours is even more concise.
  • I do what I can, when I can!!! Mikey _______________________________________________ Southern Maryland NEEDS BioDiesel !!! E-mail me to help with the Southern Maryland BioDiesel Initiative
  • Here's your bump. I have been looking for a way to get Bio-Diesel to the Charlotte area but have been coming up empty handed. I hope this works.
  • I have submitted email to my legislators through this wizard in the past. I highly recommend using it. What better way to leverage the information age! BeetleGo ============ Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel that has passed the EPA's Clean Air Act Tier II testing.
  • Great Link!! Go Bean-Burners!!!
  • More pressure is still needed in the House:

Representative Kenny Hulshof (R-MO) introduced the bill in May. It provides a similar partial diesel excise tax exemption to that currently in the Senate Energy Bill. Support for H.R. 4843 is critical to ensure that a biodiesel tax incentive is included in final legislation that results from a conference between the House and Senate on their separate Energy Bills. "The House biodiesel tax bill has 75 co-sponsors, but we need more to reach our goal of 100,‰ said ASA/Washington Representative Krysta Harden. „Now is the critical time to build momentum as the energy bill conference committee gets down to serious negotiations. If you do not see key Members of your delegation on the following list, make calls today to encourage support of H.R. 4843." Current cosponsors are: AL: Hilliard; AR: Berry, Ross; GA/FL: Linder; IL: Weller, Shimkus, Johnson, Phelps, LaHood, Kirk, Evans, Blagojevich, Davis, Manzullo, Costello, Rush, Gutierrez, Lipinski, Hyde; IN: Souder, Pence, Burton, Kerns, Hostettler, Carson; IA: Nussle, Boswell, Ganske, Latham, Leach; KS: Moran, Ryun, Moore, Tiahrt; KY: Lewis; LA: none; MI: Smith; Mid-Atl: Gilchrest; MN: Gutnecht, Kennedy, Peterson, McCollum, Luther, Ramstad; MS: none; MO: Graves, Emerson, Skelton, Blunt, Akin, McCarthy, Clay; NC: Hayes, Etheridge, Jones, McIntyre, Price, Clayton; ND: Pomeroy; NE: Terry, Bereuter, Osborne; NJ: Smith; OH: Kaptur; OK: Carson, Watkins; PA: Platts; SC: Wilson, Clyburn, Spratt; SD: Thune; TN: Tanner, Bryant, Hilleary, Clement; TX: none; VA: Jo Ann Davis; and WI: Baldwin.
  • Just got this email from <soygrowers@soy.org>
    quote:
We need your help! The American Soybean Association (ASA) is urging all soybean producers and those interested in the biodiesel and soybean industries to contact their Congressional Representatives during the next few days to ask them to support inclusion of biodiesel tax incentives in an Energy Bill being finalized by Congress. The goal of this tax incentive is to increase consumption of biodiesel, a clean-burning fuel produced primarily from soybean oil, which will help support higher prices paid to farmers for their soybeans. As passed by the U.S. Senate, the Comprehensive Energy Bill contains a tax incentive to encourage the use of biodiesel. The House’s energy bill contains no similar provision. The differences between the Senate bill and the House-passed bill are being reconciled in a joint House/Senate Conference Committee. The Conference Committee, which started its review of the Energy measure in late June, could wrap-up its work on the bill over the next several days. With time winding down on Conference Committee consideration of the Energy Bill, we have precious little time to register our support in favor of the biodiesel tax incentive. When calling your Congressional representatives, ask them to stress to the Energy Bill Conferees responsible for the tax provisions of the energy package how important the biodiesel tax incentive is to our livelihoods, as well as our environment and our country’s energy security. You can reach your Representatives and Senators in Washington, D.C. by calling the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121, or by logging onto www.soygrowers.com and using ASA’s Legislative Action Center to quickly e-mail prepared letters. Thank you for your help! Working together, we can make a difference.
  • Try usins this when asking elected officials for help in getting bills passed: "Please do all in your power to co-sponsor and pass this bill xxxxxxxxx. Thank you."
  • Here is a bump--I used your links to e-mail my calif. Reps. Thanks My nearest station is a key entry( what ever that means?) about 175 miles away and I live in a high cold climate which could cause problems? BUT I would love to try it out
  • I am new to Biodiesel use, but am running B20 in my 2000 Ford F250 Powerstroke. I will do what I can to help this cause. Keep up the good work!!! Rusty
  • Shot off some letters to the idiots back in the puzzle palace. Rodg
  • Done
  • Another reply...I'll click. I'm new here. I've heard govt offices respond far better to actual written letters than emails or form letters. Just wondering. Maybe I'll shoot of a real letter. Craig
  • Sent a brief note in. Thanks for making this available!
  • Here's a Bump! There's nothing in the Senate right now, but a Senate bill could sure use some support! Bill # H.R.316
  • Thanks for posting this link, it sure makes it easy to 1) find out what the latest legislation is, and 2) send a quick note to your reps!
  • To get demand for biodiesel up we should look at the big diesel users. Those damn TDI's are too efficient to increase the demand of BD much. ;) There must be some RV forums out there where we could post an intro to biodiesel and a link back to this site. i don't know if truck drivers have much internet access but maybe post some leaflets at truck stops indicating the benefits of BD, even B2 levels. I would guess the the RVers and the truck drivers would be really hip to the All-American nature of bioD. anyone know of any RV web groups or truck driver groups out there?
