I went to my mechanic to fix a problem with a 2001 volkwagen diesel bug. I had an awful loss of power after having spent 2700.00 fixing the engine one year earlier. The diesel mechanics, all fully certified and working on all kinds of engines including a fleet of trucks for a large local government entity, told me in no uncertain terms that the 15% biodiesel fuel being sold in the Portland , Or area is ruining the injectors in these and all other diesel engines. My mechanics are well respected experts in our area and known for their fair play and fair prices and I was quoted 2 to3 thousand to fix the problem and told that if I did not go out of the area for the 2 and 5 percent diesel that I would be back to see them again with a year or two because the injectors would again need replacements. My mechanic told me that it is a disgrace but it is a boom to his business. Who do you suppose has overlooked this reality and what is being done to correct this consumer disgrace.
