Here is a picture of hydrocarbons that I refined from Biomass in my lab.

    Let me be clear-er. Doesnt matter what the feedstock, as long as its green or was green can be brewed into liquid hydrocarbons. The earth has been doing it for billions of years, Ive copied it and sped it up by ~ 99.99999% to 99.9999999%. Wet, sloppy manure? sure. Lake shore washup? you betchya. Corn stover? Uh huh. Leaves and grass clippings from my yard? As long as you can get them to me. Your paper work from the office? Dont shred it, put it into your tank. But froggy, doesnt that make the soil bad? If we dont compost, all us tree huggers will starve. Nope because we dont burn fertilizer, we burn C H and O which come from the sky and goes to the sky. The minerals can be filtered back into the soil because green chemistry and ecology was kept in mind when trying to solve the liquid fuel problem. Ok Fine froggy, the minerals can be conserved but what about the soil life? Carbon. Life. Microbes. What about the black stuff in soil? This is where Terra Preta helps. Look it up. Infact, I can over the years, improve almost any piece of soil provided. Fine froggy but Im sure it takes more energy than what it makes. The EROI sux, right? Says you. What this means is that there is no reason to have to go thru the hell of growing a monocrop to secure your fuel, just grow what grows best. This typically means grass and trees. And yes, this means there is no reason to specialize in algoil because I can make more gallons/acre/day by growing non algoil, high sugar algae. Or even moreso, scoop it outta the lake for free.

    I got a couple emails and apparently I wasnt so clear-er so let me be clear-er-er by trying to explain what you are seeing. You are seeing various forms of hydrocarbons like wax, alcohols, lipids and tars, floating on water (like hydrocarbons will). The color of the water comes from the minerals and particles left from the process from the original biomass feedstock. And No, just because it started from leaves doesnt mean the juice is green. The biomass and all of its parts are very de-natured and what is left is the basic building blocks of biomass; minerals, amines, water and some carbon. What you cannot see thru the waxy layer and brown water is a solids layer on the bottom. Again this consists of carbon, minerals and other species of the basic building blocks of plant matter. One batch, hydrocarbon production from wet biomass with 100% utilization of waste.
