  • We need to get some BD at the Love's Truck Stop on I-20 in Van, Texas.[8D]
  • Distribution Drive no longer offers biodiesel at their Addison location.. mainly because that's a residential neighborhood I guess. However, all the other places to get biodiesel are nowhere nearby. Anybody know of a biodiesel fueling station close to Addison, TX?

Bought it, love it. [^] Go for it folks. [;)] Found out that B100 is sometimes available here too, but call ahead to be sure.
  • Found a new biodiesel place on the north side of Houston. Houston Biodiesel is located at 2970 Farrell Rd. just east of IAH off of Aldine Westfield. Paid $2.75 for B99 yesterday. They also carry B100 for $3.00 MikeyB
  • Why is BioDiesel as expensive as regular diesel? I understand the basics of supply and demand, but wonder how and why it is that the cost is not significantly cheaper than premium gasoline. If we want to increase the market share of people using BD, it would make sense to drop the price of BD to below premium diesel and premium gas. I checked the price at Major Brand Gas on Oltorf on TUE 11OCT05 and it was $3.29 p/gal. which is the same price as premium petrol diesel at Texaco and Shell stations nearby. I assume most of us our motivated to save money and to do the right thing by the environment and that's why we've jumped onto this bandwagon. To get other's to join, I feel that the prime motivation will be saving $$$$$. If the price of BD isn't any cheaper, I don't see how that's going to happen. EcoWise was selling B99 for $2.99 p/gal on WED 12OCT05. I've seen non-premium petrol diesel selling for that. Granted, EcoWise's price is a a step in the right direction. I would expect to see biodiesel, whatever grade, at about $2.00 p/gal. That would certainly make people take notice. A significant price difference would also lead to a lot of questions about the switch-over to BD. VW in collusion with Archer Daniels Midland currently only approves of BD no higher than B5. Their statement basically absolves them of any warranty support if you run anything higher than B5. Perhaps this is part of the reason there isn't more push to lower BD prices. The suppliers I've happened to find sell grades higher than B5. I wish VW would come clean about the fact that their cars CAN run higher biodiesel content quality fuel, as many on this site attest. Since BD has been popular in Europe for some time now and that B5 seems to be the standard there, I guess that's all the more they are willing to say they support since they have a track record of experience with drivers in Europe.

Petrol industry has been around for decades and has had a lot of help from the gov't in establishing itself. There are lots of high-volume refineries (apparently not enough, says the pres., but compared to BD . . .) to produce lots of fuel. Petrol consumers rarely have any brand loyalty and just shop from station to station until they see the cheapest stuff and buy it. BD is a niche market and has had little or no help from the gov't. In fact, the gov't views it the same as petrol in many ways, so the costs of licensing and selling the fuel are comparable to a high-volume petrol station. The fuel at ecowise is made from virgin cooking oil, so producers are competing for oil with another industry. Production is low compared to petrol, and there aren't many companies competing for the market. Many of us are excited enough at the prospect of using a domestic, renewable, high-quality fuel and are willing to pay a premium to get it. As long as they can sell all the fuel they can make for a high price, they will. When more production leads to a surplus of unsold fuel, someone will lower the price. So, if you want to see lower prices, build a giant production plant and buy huge quantities of inputs at wholesale discounts, then flood the market. We'll all be grateful to you for it. Otherwise, just be glad you can get good fuel for the price of #2 rotgut. Many of us were paying $3.40/gal for BD when petrol was down around $2. k
  • Bought some B100 a week ago from dfw biodiesel. I ended up with 3 gallons of dinosaur diesel leftover, to 36 gallons of b100 in my tank. Now my exhaust smells like burning food. [:p]
