Co-op in the northern burbs

Is there any interest in establishing a co-op that would either buy B100 in bulk or homebrew from WVO?

You might want to also post this in the Wisconsin forum. There are a handful of biodiesel-ists in the Milw/Racine area.

I am located in Lake Forest and doubt whether my neighbors would take kindly to either a 300 gallon tank or a homebrew setup in my back yard. I would love to join the Grayslake co-op. We have 80s vintage MB diesels that I hope to wean off of dino diesel and eventually on to B100. Let me know how to contact you.

I live in NW Chicago and have a '80 Mercedes diesel wagon. I'm interested too!

Some ideas...if anyone is interested in building a processor and has the space a reasonable distance from Evanston- I have the truck to haul WVO and processor parts and a good start on how to do it, have located some parts and have some restaurants willing to support the WVO donation-have made some samples, have access to GC and lab, AND, as a carpenter, would be willing to throw up a shed in someones yard, or fix up a trailor for a portable processor....LETS DO THIS!! I want to send a photo of me pouring homebrew BD in my tank with my middle finger up to the white house-this summer! Kyle, tell me your ideas on being involved in the co-op. Maybe drive up with some WVO and -OH or catalyst, spend the day brewin and chattin, fill up and come back in a week or two...? I really think that a portable processor could get some great interest going in Evanston-take it to the farmers market etc. I just dont have the space to do it ....

Please check my response in the Homebrew section as well. Collection from areas close to the city will likely yield both more quantity and higher quality oil. I'd love to talk oil collection with you Zac! This is great! It looks like engnenk is in and had a great idea for collection of oil. He is getting it from the cafeteria at his work place. The ease of collection and opportunity to spread the word about WVO is great. Our build day went well, and we have to finish a few final parts of the processor to brew. We primarily need to run electricity to the building, so I'm calling on anyone with electrical experience... If the project gains popularity at the farm and in the community, we may be able to store a portable processor on the site as well. One of the goals in building the processor on the site was for educational purposes so a portable processor that can be taken to events would spread the word more to people that can't make the trek up to Grayslake! I would be interested in joining the co-op as well. I live in Spring Grove and have a Chevy 2500HD Duramax diesel. I have been debating homebrewing my own diesel so in the future that may be a possibility. Let me know what I need to do.

I'm very interested in getting involved with northern chicago/burbs biodiesel and WVO activities. I just purchased a golf TDI, live in wriglyville, and work for a large international environmental non-profit. I have lots of contacts in the environmental and agricultual communities.

OK, we're finally going to brew some biodiesel at Prairie Crossing. This will be the first time with the new processor so expect some brain farts and general adjustment, etc. This is short notice, but those of you who expressed interest are welcome to come over tomorrow (Friday) morning to see what we're up to. I'll be there from 6:30am ~9am setting up and we're slated for brewing at 9am. cheers, kyle

2nd brew day is tomorrow Aug 20th. I am planning on being there at 9am to play with some of the veggie oil I have and do some general cleanup as well as run the second batch with the group. cheers, kyle

My name is Bob, I live in Gurnee, I'm interested in your co-op in Grayslake. I just attended a 2 day training class in Missouri Valley, IA  at Heartland biodiesel Co. on making biodiesel last week-end 4/26/2008. I want to get started A.S.A.P. on setting up a biodiesel Processsor. There system cost $4,500.00 for a 80 gal system with stainless water heating coils inside the processor tank. I would like to get my equipment  cost down to about $1,200.00. a coop would help me do that.  I'm also interested, I'm in Des Plaines, and am looking to get started soon. Already have a processor in the works thats capable of producing a few thousand gallons per day, as long as I can find the oil ;)

Yes. I live in Evanston, and I need to know more about these fuels and the cars that can be converted. How much room does a filtering stand take up? How hard is it to get the WVO from the merchants? What do you do with the left over filtrate? Why is bio-deisel better than WVO, and how do you brew it from WVO? Jack
