Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I plan on soon buying a used a pickup truck and running it on biodiesel and was looking for advice from some people more experienced than I. I need a crew cab that is big enough to drive my family around in, I plan on putting a lot of miles on it ( about 150-200 a week), occasionally pulling a trailer and would like to be able to use homebrewed biodiesel and regular diesel interchangabley, and I cant really spend more than $10,000 on the truck. I have been looking mostly at F-350's from the early 90's but I have no experience with diesel trucks or biodiesel and was wondering what people's advice would be on what truck/ year /engine would be best for these purposes and why. Thanks a lot.

Dude,
You are definately on the right track in that you are looking for a 6.9 litre or a 7.3 litre Indirect Injection (IDI) Ford diesel. I am sure that you know they made the 7.3 IDI until 1994.5 and then they went to the powerstroke. These make great conversion vehicles due to their simplicity and durability. I hope that you find one in good condition.
In my opinion if you are going to get a Ford diesel get one with the 3.55 rear end since it will give better mileage than the 4.11, that is unless you are going to pull frequently or heavy loads. Also, if you want a little extra power Ford put turbos on some 93 and 94 model 7.3 IDI's.
Hope this was helpful....

Unless you are hauling alot you won't need a dually. Just more tires to buy when they are bald. Depending on where you live they dont do as well in snow either...but its your money...
Would you mind telling us how much you are asking and where the truck is?
Thanks

Hello Everyone,
Incase anyone is interested the EBAY Auction for this F-350 Diesel is ending this WEEKEND Nov-04-07 19:12:39 PST (to be exact).
It's really a great looking truck and will store a lot of diesel till your next fill up 130+ Gallons between all the tanks.
Have a great weekend everyone. Just wanted to give you the heads up. We'd rather see it go to Biodiesel than anything else.

please send more pics.I am very interested in buying the truck.Dave Brannan 210-882-8065 thanks Dave
The 7.3 powerstroke does very well with the Biodiesel, I cannot tell the difference in performance in mine between regular diesel and bio-diesel, a friend of mine has the Dodge cummins and has had a few issues with his bio-diesel when he has tried to cut a few corners in his fuel processing. Make sure you wash your fuel and filter it using a water seperator filter, make sure the fuel is completely cooled before filtering.
