  •  Ive been making biodiesel for  2 years now.  I run my car, a Mercedes 250 , my central heating and even generate some of my own electricity with B100.  I heat my workshop with a stove that burns  my by products cleanly.  The same stove provides heat for my still which recovers methanol from my glycerol. The total cost of my fuel is under 15cents per litre.  Even after I pay the taxman his 37cents per litre I am still saving a hellova lot of money. I am happy to pass on my knowledge and experience. More people should be doing this, everyday tons of waste veg oil are being dumped into landfill instead of being used to produce quality fuel. Anyone who is interested in starting to make their own biodiesel is welcome to come along and see how it is done.  I make a 150 litre batch every two weeks, usually on Saturday morning.  Im in Lismore, County Waterford and if you want to contact me ring 086 3169230.

  •  I'd love to find out how you are doing this.

Maybe I could come down some time and see your setup. I'm in Mullingar but the trip would be worth it.

  •  Ill be making a batch of 150 litres next week, possibly next Saturday morning, Ill text you to confirm and give you directions early next week.  if the weather is as miseable as it is at the moment Ill have the Lard Burning Stove running as well

  •  Just to confirm that I will making a batch of 150 litres of biodiesel on Saturday morning, 5th July.  starts 9.30 finishes around 12.00 noon. My lard burning stove will be running and so will the methanol recovery still.  All are welcome, no admission charge and you might even get a cup of coffee.

  •  Here is a picture of my biodiesel processor, I made it from steel oildrums, standard plumbing fittings and salvage wood.  it cost about 500 euro and makes 150 litres of biodiesel in two and a half hours.

  • What do you use for your raw oil? Do you need an Elsbeth converter for your diesel car?

    Thanks.

    Kurt

  •  Hi Kurt,  I use waste vegetable oil from 3 local restuarants, that provides me with 70 to 80 litres a week.  I process a batch every two weeks.  Diesel engine cars do not require any modification to run on biodiesel, in fact most engines run smoother and cleaner on it.  I know of several cases of older cars which failed the NCT emmissions test on ordinary diesel, retested and passed on biodiesel.

  • I will be demonstrating making biodiesel on Saturday 19th July. Start 9.30am All welcome , no charge, you might even get a cup of coffee.  if you have veg oil bring a sample and we will test it.  The lard burning stove and the methanol recovery still will be running.  Its at the Railway Station Lismore Co. Waterford.  Phone 0863169230 for directions if you need them.

  • Holidays are over and its back to work.  My next demonstration of making biodiesel will be on Saturday 6th Sept at 9.30am.  All are welcome, no charge, bring your waste oil samples for testing.  Phone 0863169230 for directions.

  • Hi,

Neville here in Galway. Where did you buy your equipment?

  • Hello Neville, sorry I didnt reply sooner, things have been busy here.  I built all of my own equipment from steel oildrums, salvage wood and standard plumbing fittings.  The components cost 5 to 600 euro for everything. If you want more details visit www.imakebiodiesel.com.

  • Are you still providing demonstrations please?

    Pearse/Enniscorthy

  • I am indeed still making biodiesel and providing demonstrations every two weeks..   The price of diesel in Ireland has now hit 145 cents per litre  and the cost of making your own, including chemicals and electricity is less than 20 cents per litre.   I provide a readybuilt 150 litre processor for 790euro that  includes a drywash system which means no messing around with water washing and emulsion problems.Any one interested in seeing this processor working should ring me on 086 3169230 an Ill let them know when the next demo will be.

I now also provide a lab testing service to biodiesel home brewers.  I can test for conversion ratio, soap content, acid number, water content, viscosity and flash point.  The tests are free to my customers and are available at a modest charge(20euro) to other home brewers

  • If anyone would like to see biodiesel being made I am doing a demonstration on Saturday 7th May at 9.30am.  I will be making 150 litres of high quality fuel.  You will also be able to see my central heating boiler which runs on waste veg oil.  It has kept our house cozy and warm for 3 winters now at a total cost of zero euros.

    All are welcome, no charge

  • When I started doing this 7 years ago most people thought I was a bit crazy.  Times were good, easy money was everywhere, why was I wasting my time with this ?

Well things look a bit different now,   Money is tight everywhere and diesel is 160 a litre and my business building biodiesel processors and helping customers getting started is doing very well.

I have a website now where you can get some information on biodiesel and on my processors.

    www.imakebiodiesel.webs.com

I have also started a new project, making diesel fuel from waste plastics.  Its early days but it looks promising and I have a website devoted to that at www.polydiesel.webs.com

Funny enough,  a neighbour commented that I must be crazy to be wasting time on the plastic project when I have a good business with the biodiesel processors, I think Im on to something here.
